Welcome from Frisco. As a transplant myself I understand the difficulties in moving your entire life across the country. One thing to make sure to do when you get here is rent a UPS Store mail box. It will give you an address to start the process of banking, loan approval, DL, etc. Texas has an order in which everything follows the next and having a "local address" (UPS mail box) you're set.

Be prepared for a rush of freedoms and make sure to leave any and all Liberal voting practices on the East Coast.

If the job decides, go DFW. Lots more jobs here in DFW. As one of my professors said. "go to Dallas son. There's thousands of UT grads every year that are willing to work for practically nothing so they can stay in Austin to smoke dope and watch the bats fly."

LOL! I'd gladly trade straight up for a liberal in Austin to switch places with me! They'd likely prefer the politicians in charge here anyway...

The political climate is definitely a driving force to get away. Plus, we want a fresh start. Wife is an surgical RN and can get a job anywhere, but is also a musician and really wants to see if we can make Austin work due to the music scene there. I'll end up being the, "problem child" on the job market-so that's why I'm starting to look now. Dallas would easily work as some companies in my industry are located there (event/tradeshow). I'm just hoping with the growth in Austin, I can find something and live outside the city. Georgetown looks pretty nice and seemingly has a good school system (most important criteria after cost of home).

Thanks again for all of the replies! I'm all ears if anyone has any suggestions for where to live and work-either here or via private message. I'll will make it a point to get a UPS mailbox for the transition-thanks!

PS-As for the crossbow thing, I prefer the bow (I use a older Mathews for 3D and hunting). I just wanted to know if the crossbow was illegal so I could sell it up here :)
