    The next AWB is already in committee.

    The House Bill is H.R. 6257

    Here is what they want to ban. Yes, this is VERY real.

    • (b) DEFINITION OF SEMIAUTOMATIC ASSAULT WEAPON- Section 921(a) of title 18, United States Code, is amended by adding after paragraph (29) the following:

        • `(i) Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs (all models);

        • `(ii) Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Galil;

        • `(iii) Beretta Ar70 (SC-70);

        • `(iv) Colt AR-15;

        • `(v) Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, and FNC;

        • `(vi) SWD M-10, M-11, M-11/9, and M-12;

        • `(vii) Steyr AUG;

        • `(viii) INTRATEC TEC-9, TEC-DC9 and TEC-22; and

        • `(ix) revolving cylinder shotguns, such as (or similar to) the Street Sweeper and Striker 12;

      • `(B) a semiautomatic rifle that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of--

        • `(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

        • `(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

        • `(iii) a bayonet mount;

        • `(iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a flash suppressor; and

        • `(v) a grenade launcher;

      • `(C) a semiautomatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least 2 of--

        • `(i) an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the pistol grip;

        • `(ii) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;

        • `(iii) a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm with the nontrigger hand without being burned;

        • `(iv) a manufactured weight of 50 ounces or more when the pistol is unloaded; and

        • `(v) a semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm; and

      • `(D) a semiautomatic shotgun that has at least 2 of--

        • `(i) a folding or telescoping stock;

        • `(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon;

        • `(iii) a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds; and

        • `(iv) an ability to accept a detachable magazine.'.

    They aren't going after just the magazines this time. They want it all.

    I'd like to say I am surprised, but I am not. It's an outrage that anyone believes this will have a positive effect on the crime rate in this country. They obviously didn't pay too much attention from 1994 to 2004. Scalia needs to go knock some skulls together and ask,"What part of the Heller discussion did you not understand?"

    How will they treat the assault rifles we already own? Sorry I'm a newb.
    I'm not giving up my AK-47 or L1A1.

    That looks to be a duplicate copy of the Assault Weapons ban in Commiefornia where it turned law abiding citizens into felons with a stroke of a pen. Stock up and bunker down gentlemen because if the magic mulatto
    gets to be POTUS we're in for a helluva ride

    Looks like they want to ban a lot of weapon designs completely this time around, not just some of the features. The way the bill reads all designs under (30(A)) are banned from new transfer regardless of the features listed in subsequent sections. That means no "post ban" ARs or AKs.

    Interesting that the bill was introduced and sponsored by Republicans. I think there has pretty much always been an AWB in committee since the previous one expired, but this one probably has the best shot at getting passed once the economy and Iraq are resolved.

    No it isn't.

    The NEXT AWB will not even be introduced into Congress till after 01/20/09.

    GovTrack: H.R. 1022: Text of Legislation, Referred in Senate

    Yes it is. It has been in committee since early 2007. Feel free to click on the link and read up on it.

    On a side note it isn't like it will be magically enacted on inauguration day or that all weapons listed will disappear from the shelves at the stroke of midnight. It would likely take 2-3 yrs to be passed if not longer. But, with a democratic super-majority in office there would be little hope of stopping it if it came out of committee and made it to the floor

    Last sponsors were in June of this year. Unless it gets miraculous consideration during special session (highly unlikely), it's basically dead.

    These bills are introduced every year... where they go nowhere. Should we be vigilant? Yes. Scared by every pet bill that attracts few sponsors and never makes a tottering step or two in committee? No.

    HR 1022 in 2007 attracted far more sponsors (67) and got a step further in the legislative process (referred from committee to subcommittee) ... and still died without ever being debated in committee.

    Yes but the current Congressional session ends in a few weeks and this will not be passed in this session of Congress. Thus the whole process of re-introducing it, assigning it to committee, etc. has to start over again with the next session of Congress.

    Thus, "The NEXT AWB will not even be introduced into Congress till after 01/20/09".

    Dont feed into the hype. Every vendor at the show was using the "Obama" excuse to keep their prices high and not cut deals. Just buy what you can when you can.

    Ah. Clearly a misunderstanding of the process on my part. For some reason I was believing they could carry over. Although I am not joining the frenzy, it does worry me that the "bans" continue to gain more steam as they go.

    Yes, but bear in mind that all of those years were under threat of veto.

    Should Obama win the election, there will be a far greater chance of it attracting attention. Just the same as the original that was passed in 94' under the second year of Clinton.

    So what about those with 'yellow paper' AWs? Should they expect a knock on the door if the bill were to pass? I was not involved when Clinton put it through last time. What happened then???????

    Forgive the newb!!!

    Doubtful, the Government tries to just cut off the production, or tax it to death.

    I was living in Commiefornia when the 94 AWB was signed into law all my
    favorites became safe queens ,then in the fall of 99 IIRC California expanded
    the AWB that you had until Jan of 2000 to register your AR's ,Bushmaster's ect with the DOJ and that anybody who didn't and was caught with an unregistered AW was going to be incarcerated .If you had filled out the 4473 yellow form it was a papertrail back to you. I moved all my ''contraband'' to a undisclosed location outside Commiefornia:mad:.

    You can bet they will try if there is a Democratic majority. Communism can only flourish when the populace is disarmed and good men can do nothing. Personally, I have a spot .

    Our goal of creating of creating a socialist America can only succeed when those who would resist us are TOTALLY disarmed. Sarah Brady 1994 @ the U.N.
