    Hi,
Is anyone aware of an area, within a reasonable driving distance from Houston, where one can go shoot without going to a range. In other words, in the "country", good distance from any residential area, good backstop, where it is apparent that people have gone to shoot for some time, and it is accepted.

While going to a range has its place, I seem to enjoy myself more where I don't have to worry about other folks firearms proficiency and safe handling, I have seen some scary stuff... :1zhelp:

I grew up in the El Paso area, where we would just go out in the desert. And every other place I have lived seemed to have a spot like that somewhere, but I have not found one around Houston.

    Thanks for any help!

Not going to happen. Almost 90 % of the property in Texas is privately owned. Either make friends with a land owner or go to the ranges on off days. Sorry.
