A small amount, I would say newspaper. Something like that, fans and and open doors/windows.

Shop vac above is a good idea too. Better than mine.

Set up a cell camera at the back feeder to try to take care of the corn bandits. By the time i sneak up the trail, about 60 yards away from the feeder, the coons take off before i can get a shot off.
So figured id out smart em with a trap.

I set it up last night ... the 1st victim

    Nice pelt ...

That thar was $15, when I first got out of the service, had just cranked up my farrier practice again, and had a brand new kid to feed.

Shop vac (remove the filter) as much as you can (literally jam the bare hose end into the carpet) then fans and open windows.

    * pet peeve alert, it's a water heater, not a hot water heater

Working on it. The shop vac is working there is just so much water it literally flows right back into where the vac sucked it up.
Been doing the towel sopping up thing as well.
    I think I'm making progress.

Perfect opportunity to remove the nasty carpet and go tile/wood.

Ever seen how much filth is trapped in/under a carpet and the pad.

I have not had carpet in a house in over 20 yrs and never will again.

You will likely have a mold issue after as well unless you get some good blowers/fans and dry it for days.

This is also why my W/D and Water heater are located in garage.

Not sure when or why someone thought those items inside was a good thing.

As for my Saturday I get to fix a water leak on my side of water meter.
    Not the first time either.
In 15 yrs here this is 3x always same spot just my side if meter where the connection is located. The transition between pipes gets shifted around by ground enough over time.

I may go all in and do all the way from meter to casa with new pipe.

    Joy Joy.

At least its a nice mid 60s day

    Good Morning Texicans.

MP, about all you can do is sop up as much as you can and get air moving over the carpet. I do not want to be a purveyor of badness, but the carpet and pad may be toast. If the water heater blew, you can make a claim on your homeowners for replacement of carpet and water heater, subject to deductible of course. A major PITA but may be better than days of drying carpet and pad.

    Morning.
    I think I'm making progress.
I'm so sorry for your situation. I've been there and it's my opinion that amateur efforts are doomed to fail. The mold, the odd smells, the it'll-never-look-right again carpet, the warped moldings...there's just too much damage that you can't even see right now that will manifest over time.

I've tried to fix it myself and I've let professionals do it. I know which way I'll go in the future. Unless you just feel sure you're gonna overcome what you see, it's probably time to make a call and write a check. My home insurance agent was helpful in recommending a remediation company last time, even though I never made a claim. You might want to call them, first.

Either way, to my mind the situation you describe is a job for professionals.

    Yep call in the pros.

Insc deductibles suck here in texas.

Oh, fans wont cut it. You need those big blowers to dry it fast enough to avoid as much damage as possible. Also some warm air as well.
