Ah okay I know that blowing out the spark plugs is a common problem.
IIRC, the 4.6 L engine in the car lines is the same basic engine they used in the truck lines, just for some reason they called it a "Triton" in the truck lines. Also there were larger displacements of the "Triton" engine available in the truck lines, as well as the V-10 version. IIRC, the 4.6 L was the only one available in the car lines.

Yes, the spark plug issue is well known for happening.

    Hey Ben,

Round here? That is a $250 to $300 job....

The 4.6 is bad (had one blow out on my last Crown Vic..) But the 5.4's......?? in the pick up trucks are terrible...

Of course...if it trashed the coil pack...that will be another $80....

Having been a previous triton owner before going to the first gen Nissan 5.6 (underrated god of an engine in the first gen) there’s a lot of wtf moments in these ford engines.

I would own a 3valve for the right price and low miles but you have to delete some features and replace parts. It basically brings these engines back to what was good about the 2valves. Now the best two valve was the shortest run. Figured right? I had one and didn’t understand why ford got it right but only made em for 6 months in Late 2003. 2 valve 5.4 normal full length one piece plugs. Only the lash adjustment was an issue on these engines but other than that that run was a solid engine.

The 2 valve before it, that popped plugs out, is also misleading because just like mounting a scope how many people do I catch not using torque specs? A lot. I have no doubt the stubby plugs on those once torqued correctly was not an issue and if it was it was x amount of miles and just check torque.

One of the few times I’ll defend Ford.

As for the 4.6 it was a great engine. Not without faults but overall a great engine if you keep up on preventative maintenance. I’d take a 4.6 with low miles any day compared to a lot of junk on the market now.

Car wise though...if I had to pick something low miles that I knew had to take 300k plus miles with just normal maintenance...I’d pick an early 2000’s Buick LeSabre with the 3.8 liter. That engine is stupid reliable.
And the basis of that engine goes all the way back to the Buick 231 V-6 from the mid to late 1970's.

And yes, they are stupidly reliable, and will endure lots of abuse.

Yeah, I got that, too. :(
All part of the yuppyification of America.

The car companies have herds & herds of office yuppys (back stabbing ball washers, each & every one) laying around in them air conditioned yuppy offices.

They all went to them yuppy schools gay porn studios..

They get two double fistfuls of micro dot, and a pitcher of grain to wash it down....and are turned loose on car deezine...

The yuppy that screws over the most working folk? Gets to be the first to slither its slimy self under the boss' desk...the only place a yuppy has ever done a lick of work.

When cars were designed by MEN? Never heard of spark plugs blowing out of the cylinder head...(unless boosted with 100% NITRO)
