He knows reinstating the AWB would be political suicide.
(Although some may argue he's already doing just that.)

Why bother? There are confirmed reports that he issued an order on inauguration day reclassifying ammo as hazardous materials, thereby opening them to all sorts of searches (delay tactics). Instead of spot checking containers, customs officials are now required to open and inspect every case. An inspection that would have taken a couple of days is now taking months. How does that affect the price and availability of ammo?

In this article, he says he wants to 'ban' the transfer of weapons going across the border. What do you think THAT means? I don't know, but I guarantee it won't be a positive step for the American gun owner.

Problem is on Mexico's end. They have to much corruption with law enforcement/border security officials so they turn a blind eye to stuff coming into their country. I hate how Mexico points to the finger to us, sure the guns are being bought here but if they don't inspect what is coming into their country then the problem is on their end. If the guns were banned here they drug cartels would just smuggle them in from other countries since they have the money to do so.

And despite Obama's claim that 90% of the guns going to Mexico come from the U.S., we know better:

    Yes...he can

Your all missing his Bama's real goal. He won't need to reinstate a ban, thus having to go through Congress. Ever hear of "international law"??

Bama isn't stupid. Rather, he's smart, and sneaky. He has full intention of getting our guns without a fight.

For more than a decade at the United Nations, dictatorships have been working with global gun-ban groups funded by billionaire ?nancier George Soros to impose a gun ban treaty upon the United States.
In 2010, the United Nations convenes a major gun-control conference. But you can bet that, under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the U.S. delegation won’t oppose the U.N.’s gun-ban dictates, as it did in the past, but will now embrace American gun bans in the name of “international law.”

If there is a big turn around in congress in 2010 he will try while he still has a majority. If he is a lame duck get ready.

He can't do anything treaty wise that will threaten the sovereignty of the country according to the constitution. It won't keep him from trying but legally he can't back door it that way.

Can't ratify a treaty without Congress. It takes 2/3 of the Senate to ratify any treaty Obama would want to shove down our throats, and we're safer in the Senate than the House.
