I am looking for an odd specialty item.

Somewhere along the way through life I handled a “rifle stock” that was a non-gun but had a scope rail for demo-ing scopes.

    I want one.

Several applications I have in mind.
    e.g.:
I have a neglected 35x45mm Luepold fixed power bench rest scope that would be great for spotting shots or bird watching.
I’m going on outings with kids where they would take delight in looking at stuff through my IR thermal scope.

    Unique request perhaps.

    Anyone know where I can acquire/buy a non-gun with a scope rail??

I’m sure I could fashion one from an old Remy 700 stock or a derelict 10/22 stock and a picatinny rail but around kids and parents it might seem to firearm-like to let kids point the IR thermal at each other!!

    Anybody????

My Father was given a similar thing some 40 odd years ago.
It was basically a gun stock, with a variable power scope mounted to it for spotting use.

The "mount" you are referring to is generally found in shops that have a good supply of scopes for sale. They do look like a firearm to the untrained though.

    OK
Gonna answer my own question, as I found a perfect solution.

I was looking for a non-gun stock to mount an optical scope or my thermal scope.

I found a cheap used crossbow.
Took off the bow. Took out the trigger. Took off the trigger guard.

It has the mounting Picatini rail.

    Voila!!!
    Perfect.

I'm cautious, as it looks firearm-like, though.

Cool. I have seen an elk guide in Idaho use basically a hand whittled 2x4 sized tree limb that looked like a stock. with a scope rail mounted to it. Had a sling and a bipod. The X-bow should work great.

    Congrats on finding a solution.
