I have a 6 year old daughter who has been showing some interest in helping when I'm cleaning guns in the garage. The range I belong to has an airgun and archery range so I'm starting to evaluate when might be the time to try her started on an airgun. I don't think she's quite mature enough yet.

I have already been discussing with her and her 3 year old sister the basics of gun safety though. Figure there's no point in waiting on that.

Thanks! He’s like me the most of my three kids. Looks and temperament and thinking patterns.

My middle boy likes to bring along a shotgun and some slugs during our range day.

No pics, no kids but I will share a recent story involving me and my best friend's son who's 10 yrs. old. We're having a "guys and guns" night after hitting the range and touring our usual gun shops all day and I am sitting with the young one at the kitchen table with my EMP 4. He really liked the pistol and asked if he could check it out. I drop the mag and thoroughly clear the weapon with him watching me and hand it to him. He immediately clears the weapon again before investigating it further. I was in awe. Wonderful father my friend is.

I’ve never taken the pet kid to a range.

We just shoot at steel behind the shop. I have targets from 10 to 178 yards and points between. (Gonna try to push back to 200 soon)

She’s been shooting since she started asking and showing an interest. I think she was about 5 when she started with the Red Ryder (she’s the 4th generation to learn to shoot with that rifle, it’s a real classic). She started shooting a bow shortly after.

Now she loves to hunt. Varmints and pigs have every reason to fear her.

She helps me a little at the reloading bench, usually when it’s her rifle we are loading for.

This is the latest generation (I keep changing & improving it) of my pistol range behind the shop.

I had a couple friends out, we spent the whole afternoon yesterday shooting. My daughter and one of my buddies daughter were still shooting at 9:00 last night (I have a floodlight back there)

I owe Quinn $1. Gave her 10 shots to hit a 3" steel at 100yd with her 22 yesterday in 20mph winds. Took her 7 shots. Dammit if she's not a better shot than I am and she's seven.

In my opinion, any person u feet the age of 18, should always be admitted to ranges, gun safety classes, and any other firearm training events , free of charge as long as they are accompanied by a parent or guardian. We should bend over backwards to make sure as many kids as possible are trained and educated when they are young so that they do not get to college and become brain washed by ignorance
