To set the record straight, I care about nothing and I'm sure as hell not afraid of overzealous law enforcement. The two officers who stopped here didn't strike me as that type but I'm a poor judge of character these days. My only issue is I want to leave what little I have left to my son when I kick-the-bucket. I don't want to risk those bastards taking my property. Other than that, the gun grabbers can kiss my lily-white ass.

BTW, one of the officers commented on the bumper sticker on my old pickup, "NRA, Stand and Fight". He asked where he could get one.

All this talk about BoS or no BoS is a bit convoluted because people argue both directions and the banter is different on various forums. So for an idiot like me, it's a bit confusing. I wouldn't care at all except I don't want to give any money-grabbing land-grabbing gov't agency the tiniest excuse to steal what little I have left to leave to my son. That really is my only concern.

All the more reason to not sign a BoS. It is not required by law and does nothing for you; along the same lines as "don't talk to the police."

So then why impose self registration?

The .gov wants everything registered and on the books. That should be reason enough to not require a BOS.

I've dealt with government enough to know that they want documentation for two reasons, cover their ass and expose yours. No BOS.

I understand why Mike wants it, but no one has yet to tell me how it helps keep them out of trouble. In fact, it could probably cause more trouble. For example:
Bob sells a gun to Bill at a gun show, Bob has Bill sign a BOS. Bob's old gun turns up in a crime. LE backgrounds the gun, finds out Bob owned it. The question Bob and he says he sold it and has a BOS to prove it. LE checks it out and says it's phony. LE thinks Bob could be involved. LE hassles Bob 'cause they think he knows more than he's saying and may really know the current owner and is covering for him. Bob could have just sold the gun at a gun show with no BOS. (and now there is no phony info to have to explain).

That piece of paper can have all kinds of accurate or inaccurate information on it from either party, one of which is no longer available to question because of phony information.
