I picked up my Performance Center 3.1" Shield Plus today....

I'll probably get to go shoot it later in the week. It is ported, but that is the only way they sell that model. I have a standard barrel I just ordered for it, so I can swap the ported barrel.

    Done collecting Shields now :D

I NEVER cared for fiber optic sights before. But I am REALLY loving the ones that S&W uses - there is a metal spiral round the light rod to protect it. And, the combo of the red/green goes amazingly well. I am glad they all are not the same color.

3 of these Shields has that sight setup. Now that I am around 50, they really help my eyes see the sights when at my indoor range.

I hope the 2.0 trigger is better. I had an original shield and hated the spongy trigger. I had to replace it with an apex trigger and sear to make it decent. Wound up selling the gun anyway. It just never shot very well for me.

I used to think my Shield trigger was iffy but I’ve shot it so much that I’ve either adjusted nicely to it or it has smoothed out a lot.

You’re killing me with your posts @shipwreck , I think I need a Shield Plus.

The Shield Plus is MUCH better than the original Shield trigger, IMHO.

In fact, the 4" Shield Plus I own is my favorite handgun at the moment. I was amazed at the tight groups I can shoot with it. And, for double taps - I've never shot a gun as well as the Shield plus. I have small hands, and I think the smaller grip over most double stacks just works for me.

And, the sights just work great for my older eyes.

Yes, you need a Shield Plus - how about two? One in each size :D

I just got my first Shield, a Plus (non-Performance 3.1” barrel). I shot it for the first time yesterday and was really impressed with its trigger and accuracy. It’s the best factory striker trigger I’ve tried. It easily ate 250 rounds worth of 115 gr Federal, Remington and Fiocchi and 147 gr Stand-1 Armory without a hitch. I even tried limp-wristing it, and it still shot. From 5 to 15 yards, it’s just as accurate as my fullsize 1911 and easily outshot my S&W 3913. For a gun this size, I was expecting snappier recoil, but I didn’t sense that. This gun is an awesome shooter.

Mine has the thumb safety. It was hard to disengage at first but has loosened up. I read from others that the slide won’t lock back if your left thumb rests on the slide release. Sure enough it happened to me, but moving my thumb down a bit worked like a charm. The grip and texture feels just right in my hands, but the texture does tend to rub my skin when carried IWB. I may have to smooth it out a bit.

My only concern is the report from a few Shield owners who experienced the little slide release spring popping out of its groove and jamming up the slide. The thought on some of the forums is that S&W didn’t address that issue with the Plus. I’m hoping these are isolated enough issues that S&W didn’t feel the need to mess with it.

Here is a pic comparing it to my S&W 3913 and my Colt Competition 1911.
