On a serious note....you *need* a pocket pistol. There's simply too many times in Texas where you simply can't carry a full-sized/compact - up to you, but for myself, it was the way I went years back when I first got serious about CCW.

I have cpmpact sized CCW's (.45 , .357 and 9mm) and an LCP as well as a Mini-14. I love them all, but I carry the LCP nearly every day. I think I would give up one of my other pistols before the LCP, it's just too easy to carry no matter what I am wearing. My Mini is fun, but I fired two shots to check zero before the Winter and have shot one coyote with it this month. SO I guess for me I would have to say get the smaller CCW first. You'll definately get more use out of it. But then.......as soon as possible .....start building the AR or get a MINI.

You can get a kel tec for around $250-275. You can get an LCP for around $325-350.

I guess what I'm saying is that it isn't going to be incredibly hard to do both, expecially if you had enough to buy an AR. It may not be in 40 S&W or .45 auto, but IMHO those cartridges are a tad large for pocket pistols anyways.
