That said, I know a girl who does TKD at my daughters school.

My best friends grown daughter has a Black Belt in TKD... no way I would get into a fracas unless she was on MY side!!!

Quick question @benenglish and @jordanmills . Aren't there other countries and cultures that child pornography and pedophilia are quite open and acceptable?

Very few countries in the modern civilization I think. MOST of the world has forbidden such things. But as was mentioned, there is the long standing practice of pegging little boyz and of child brides in some Middle East countries (but they don't do pornography I think), as well as the rampaging child sex trade in countries like El Salvador. The European world kinda frowns on it, but it used to be big in France and Germany.

Back when I was married to ex-wife #2, I had step-daughter, that I swear was the spawn of Satan himself!

I could tell stories about her that would scare most grown men! One of her ex-boyfriends, is currently serving life without parole for murder, attempted murder and armed robbery! Another one was a known gang member.

My former stepdaughter tried to burn the house down with us in it. She was a hellion and that was the last straw... out of fear for our lives we sent her away. She eventually calmed down, but was a liberal lesbian until she died at a young age from a blood clot since she was very fat and had to sleep in a lounge chair instead of a bed. But she was the only lesbo in her group of friends that wasn't a man-hater... I'd give her kudos for that.

But dammit boy I'm stuck on the arson.

Just so there is no misunderstanding, my questions are purely academic and trying to understand the reasoning and logic behind why anyone would want to push those boundaries.

Minor children have very little understanding of such things. For that matter even some adults have problems understanding such complex things!

IMO, also age is an arbitrary number anyways. I have heard the justification of some saying, "Well my granny got married at 14 and had a passel of kids by the time she was 18 years old."

That doesn't justify it IMO. Fifty, sixty, seventy, and eighty years ago, a girl of 14 was probably vastly superior in maturity to even women in their twenties in current times. In WW1 and WW2, there were young men that were 15 to 17 years old going to war, fighting and dying in battle. I just don't see that same behavior with the same group of youngsters of current times.

I get comparisons to maturity of the past. You can’t really compare a time when children had little choice but to grow and act as adults or probably die.

As much as I wish we had a more mature youth population, and especially college age population, I don’t think I would want to subject my children to the hardships of the early 1900s. I also believe when put in bad situations “kids” (18 years old or so) mature very quickly. I joined the military just after I turned 18 and went to Iraq right at a year later. My 19 year old buddies at home we’re doing all the usual stuff, I was running around with a select fire rifle.

I think the stakes make a big difference. Go further back when 10-12 year olds needed to wonder the woods alone with a rifle. While being prepared for such things parents would be far more “persuasive” when it came to correcting mistakes than we see today. I think most don’t consider the consequences of unlearned lessons or repeated mistakes to be nearly as dangerous, and since many things children do now are far less risky the immediate dangers may not be there. But it definitely has a long term effect on society as a whole.

I agree things have changed a lot, and for many reasons. I also think that under the necessary circumstances we would see kids realize that the choices of “mature or die” create a compelling motivation for maturity, but I don’t believe anyone really believes they will be faced with such a choice anymore.

Interestingly enough, there are some great documentaries covering WW2 fighter pilots. One I enjoy follows a P-47 fighter group stationed at Corsica near Italy. The clips showing downtime allow you too see a bunch of kids who fly some of the most technologically advanced aircraft of the day acting exactly as you would expect a bunch of 18 year old kids to act. Making boats out of old external tanks and getting drunk while dragging their shitty dangerous boat around in rough coastal waters.

My sister, back in the 60s, hit a guy who grabbed her breast and collapsed his lung. He was a big macho football player at Texas. She weighed about 110 or 115.

That’s an outlier case. The genetic differences between men and women don’t mean that every man overpower every woman physically. It simply means that if randomly paired the odds will be heavily stacked against a woman. It’s not meant to be demeaning though, it’s just a fact of nature.

It’s part of the reason I wanted my daughter to take some form of martial arts. I want her to have every advantage possible.

We ain't talking about a fair fight I'm talking about violence of action.
If someone decides to get on top of you this ain't Hollywood.
Instant violence I've been a part of.
I've taken a couple of those was lucky to have survived.
If you never been hit on your button and the lights fad if not go out you lucky.
But if someone hits and you blink you can die period.
She got the first chance. But if she didn't things could have been a lot different.

Yes, I’ve had my head split open by an unexpected punch followed by more punches to the back of my head. Only thing that got me out was putting my hand up and pushing my thumb in to his Adam’s apple, or somewhere in that area.

I’ve been hit in the head buy a few things in my life resulting in various levels of disorientation, lol.

But my point still stands. Mix any random man and woman. Let either get a surprise hit in first if you like. In the vast majority of cases when it comes to physical altercations, the man will win if he wants to. He would be far more likely to knock a woman out with an unexpected hit than vice versa. I’m not denying that there are some women out there who could drop a guy like a sack of potatoes. I’m arguing that they are in the extreme minority of women. Most can’t.

And I’m not arguing that every man could knock out a woman with a single hit, but it’s far more likely to happen with a man vs woman than a woman vs a man. (Feels weird making that statement)

Whether it’s instantaneous and unexpected violence, or expected. In most cases the male will have a huge physical advantage. As long as she doesn’t kick him hard in the nuts.
