Perhaps a few AK semis and other firearms were smuggled across to Mexico but that is being watched very closely by our Feds. The US liberal News Media would try to make us believe that the Mexican drug cartels are armed with such but....The cartels have millions of dollars and can buy machineguns and grenades from any source, from any country willing to sell and
including American made weapons, grenades, rocket launchers stolen, or given or lent to those countries. Money talks and BS walks.....

The culprit is the Americans that buy and use the smuggled from Mexico dope, as well as the spank the hand US laws that do little to seriously stop the drugs coming in and use thereof and thus the millions of dollars going to the thugs in Mexico. The PR of China has effective ways of stopping drug use as well as the muslims...Neither of which places I recommend for peaceful persons or dopers.

This is bigger than average Joe Shopper picking up some firearms at Wally World, smuggling them into Mexico and trading for narcotics to bring back home. The US leads the world in foreign weapons sales (over 68% globally in '08) and also has a history of covert drugs-for-guns operations in Central America and around the world. Like Cuate said, 'Money talks and BS walks...' - countries, armies, cartels, anyone with the means to buy large caches of weapons will find a seller. Just so happens the largest seller is the US. What happens then is the media (liberal, conservative, it doesn't matter) spins it to look like legal gun-owning American citizens are responsible for all gun-related violence and we end up with the president of one of the most corrupt countries in the world stating before Congress that Americans need to be disarmed. Ridiculous.

There was also some "spin" done by the media and anti-gun folks. The Mexican gov't ran the serial numbers of some of the guns they've seized through ATF and a good percentage could be traced back here. But that's not a good percentage of ALL the guns, just some that the Mexicans suspected of being from here and checked. If you carefully leave out a word or two, suddenly it looks like we're wholesaling the guns across the border. It all plays well with the anti's. The Border Patrol reported a year or two back that their agents had been threatened with a .50 cal 'Ma Deuce'. I have yet to see one of those on sale at Academy.
