Any good pawn shops in Dallas for those odd or rare gun finds? Seems like mostly low end shops but you never know what will turn up in these places.

You could try Mike's Gun Room in Richardson - he's an ex-Marine who just shot some guy trying to rob him. He's been selling guns for 26 years. I'm sure he's got the blood cleaned up by now.
And just up the road is Plano Pawn - they usually have a decent collection of firearms. (I say "collection" because I'm not sure they're interested in selling them). Can be difficult to negotiate with.

Ray's Hardware & Sporting Goods on Singleton Blvd. is supposed to be one of the better Dallas pawn shops for firearms. (Full disclosure: I've never been there). I'd recommend visiting during day light hours and best to probably take an armed escort with you.

I think Rays is pretty cleaned out right now with all the pandemonium. I'll checkout Those places in Richardson and Plano.

    Dallas Texas or so
From what I've seen the pawn shops are way over priced. They had a mix master 1911 that they were asking 3300 for and swore it was original and correct. This was in plano on average g.

I haven't been to pawn shops in some years now, but they use to be some were pretty good places to get a decent deal on some guns. I have bought a few in pawn shops over the years and gotten some great deals.

But there are those that are very proud of what they have and price them accordingly, and won't budge one inch on the price.

Another thing to look at with a pawn shop, is it's location in town. Have a good friend I have known for many years and his father owned a local pawn shop here for close to forty years. If a pawn shop is in a poor or bad part of town, usually they don't have much of anything or real value to begin with and are best to avoid them like the plague. As general rule, middle class people needing quick money and going to visit a pawn shop, usually won't go to a bad or poor part of town to do business.

I’ve been seeing some places list their inventory online. The internet has made individual items available across the country but also everyone knows its value and the days of finding a good deal are going the way of the dodo.

I used to be a constant pawn shop cruiser. From just after college (circa 1993) to 2005 when I moved to San Angelo, I made a habit of checking out every pawn shhop around dallas, houston, and austin on a semi-regular basis. Lots of good deals in many areas.

Since about 2010, I've noticed both the proliferation of online sales, and the tendency of these places to price everything at retail minus maybe 10-20%..sometimes, they'll price stuff AT the exact same price as lowes or home depot.

Small towns and mom and pop shops still have some good deals, sometimes, but you're right, really good deals are far fewer and farther between than ever before.

PLano Pawn shop (previously mentioned) used to have some interesting stuff. They shut down a little over a month ago (I know because I had to find a new FFL).

If anyone knows pawn shops that buy ammo for a decent amount, I'd love to hear it. I'm trying to divest myself of 380 as a caliber as a whole (ammo + a Bersa I bought a decade ago when i was around 21) and have tried a couple local ones. Was told they'll buy 380 at $6-10/box. Meanwhile they seem to have all of 2 boxes priced at $40/box on their shelf.

Way to sell him on that one! Most people usually tend to be kind of secretive about that kind of thing, but you've got finesse.

Definitely want to bump this thread; I have had such poor luck with pawn shops locally that I don't even bother anymore. I sometimes drop in on road trips to other areas - was in Waco recently and found a decent shop but they, like everyone else I imagine, are cleaned out. And prices right now are not going to be in the buyer's favor.

Stalking classifieds sections on popular sites seems to really be the best way to go - anyone have a different experience?

In our current economy, there are hardly any "good" guns getting pawned but when they do, they go on the gun auction sites. I have traced a few of the pawn shops that I use to frequent to Gunbroker. I haven't found a good deal on a gun at a pawn shop in 10 years. A pocket full of cash at a Gun Show is your best bet nowadays.
