IMO, one of Trump's biggest mistakes was not getting rid of all the Obama holdovers and anyone that showed any loyalty to Obama, or the Democrats.
The problem is that there are far more swamp creatures in the federal govt. than just 8 years of Kaptain Kenya. We had eight years of both Bush and Clinton, close as brothers (both admitted this).

Trump had only 4 years to rid of 24 years of collected scumbags.

IIRC, that was one of the things Trump wanted to do. Clean up the lobbyists in DC. Make new rules for those seeking to become a lobbyist.

I can't remember all the details now though.
To me that's the biggest source of corruption in D.C.. You can't get a bill through that doesn't hold hundreds of pages of pork.

Look up the news stories about how LBJ stole an election in 1948. That is an example.

Agree with the media campaign being a big factor against Trump. But you have to admit he gave them a lot of cannon fodder.

But the media also railed against W and against every R candidate for some time now.

I remember Bush (Dubya) pretty well. Yeah, the media didn’t like him. But the scale of opposition was completely different.

And I have considered the fodder, but I also watched and listened to Trump say “white supremacists should be condemned totally” and the next day every cable news station ran the story “Trump says white supremacists are good people”. So I don’t really think him holding his tongue a couple times would have made much difference with the MSM or most of the people who believe them.

He was called a racist despite never actually making any racist remarks and having a long history of engaging with and donating to “minority communities”. But anything short of open borders and amnesty for illegals meant he was racist.

He was the first presidential candidate (with a chance) to support gay marriage before getting elected but he was still labeled as homophobic.

So I really don’t think him talking like a normal person made any difference in his treatment. And I don’t think is treatment is at all comparable with what I saw with Bush. They pulled out all the stops, dropped all pretenses of remaining unbiased, and ignored every genera rule of reliable reporting.

I did look up the LBJ and election you mentioned and believe it is indeed an outlier case. But a perfect example of what happens when you have poor voter security on a massive scale. When things are twisted to such a degree the idea of “getting enough real votes to overcome the fraud” is no longer tenable. It’s a very interesting read though.

Part of the reason we need to really push to take the house/senate in ‘22 is to make sure we can stop Dems for further eroding election security and make sure that whoever runs in ‘24 actually has a chance. Dems used Covid to push for an almost complete wash of just a lost ever security measure used to keep elections at least somewhat honest. Hell, certain republicans in state senates went along with it until they realized how stupid they had been (PA).

And you wondered why I got a bit sarcastic with my previous reply. Because compared to many here on this forum, I am somewhat of a liberal. My mother was a liberal. Even my uncle was somewhat of a liberal. But what they, and I are not, are socialists, or communists. My uncle spent two tours in Vietnam fighting commies!

You keep bashing Trump as if he's the reason for all the bad things that have happened. As if he is the only reason he lost the election.

Do you believe Obama did things better? Is Biden doing better?

Ask yourself this honest question, would you rather have Trump back as president, or continue down this path we are going with Biden?
Were you comprehending anything I have written in the past few years, you would know the answer to that question. You are intelligent. You are not an idiot, quit posting like one.

I am ticked that Trump lost the election precisely because Biden is in the WH. And because he cost us the Senate. I have always said that the Trump admin had many great accomplishments. But that does not mean I cannot objectively look at his behavior during election year and realize he hurt his own reelection. I do not blindly worship Trump.

He "disavowed" over a dozen times to the media, and they still kept asking.

Trump was a champion for people of color as a businessman in NYC.

The first presidential candidate to talk about gays in his convention acceptance speech.

Got any specifics to back that up?

Other than he refused to illegally throw out the election?
Let's see... the legislators in several states were contesting the electors put up by a SOS, and when trying to recall them the Governors of those states wouldn't allow it. So, id say Pence could have said hey your house in order, then send me electors.
Legislators had the constitutional right to reinspect and reevaluate the election and could have voted their own electors. Pence new that.....

Trump's administration did a lot of good things. A few dumb things.

But his inability to control his mouth/ego cost us the election and the Senate. And for that reason, I have a hard time forgiving him.
So, if he played nice, massive intrusion in to our electoral process on many scales would NOT have occurred????

I too don't follow blindly. Im his biggest critic. He needs to come clean on corona scam.... He gave the Dems (govt) way too much power. Why in hell did he give all that power to faucci??? Big mistake. Why didn't he declare a biowarfare weapon of mass destruction from the get go...?

I do not have a problem with Pence's politics, I just do not think he is electable. Same reason I do not want Trump to run. I think all that will do is energize the left, and force the hand of moderates who will not vote for Trump because he is "offensive." I would rather see DeSantis or Noem run. Noem would create all kinds of problems for the liberal media.

Other than not blindly worshipping Trump, I never have figured out why some folks are so down on Pence.
My take, and only my take, is he was/is milquetoast. I don't think there is anything wrong with him personally, and he seems like he's a nice guy, but was never the pitbull Trump needed. To me, that's the main job of the VP while not outshining the president. You need to be the one screaming at the top of your lungs to keep the party in line and also defend the admin's policies to the public. And whether it was right or wrong, in the end Pence was looking out for himself and whatever political future he may have.

Since VPs these days seem to be picked for political advantage to win votes from an area of the country, or because of constituency instead of being the best person for the job, rarely have we seen a VP who was the equal of his running mate. LBJ was as dirty as they come, but he is one of two I can think of off the top of my head who was truly built for both jobs. Nixon was the other. In this case I think Pence lived up to the adage that the VP is worth nothing more than a pail of warm piss.

No, but he would not have motivated such a high turnout for the Dems and would not have driven the middle ground to vote Dem. Then the voter fraud would not have mattered to the outcome.
