The wife and I went out for lunch yesterday at Pei Wei. We order, get our drinks, and walk by a couple with their two young boys and girl. First off the dad kept saying "Stop it, stop it", loud enough the whole place could hear it. We look over and the younger of the two boys has rice and food everywhere, on the chair, all over the table, the floor, on him, everywhere. Few more minutes and "Stop it, stop it", the kid has rice all over his hands, he's been playing in his food, the table looks like a chinese food bomb went off. A few more "Stop it's" then mom decides to take both boys to the restroom to clean them up. When they come out dad says "Hey buddy how you doing?" all happy like. They proceed to pack up to leave and are gone, we turn around and see that the older boy had been eating Wendy's. What was strange was the young girl was quite and didn't say a peep the whole time while the two boys terrorized the place.

When in the hell did kids start getting to do whatever they want? First off I would never have thought about doing that when I was young, at home or anywhere, and if i had I would have had an ass beating I would have remembered for years.

Now we don't have kids, but I find that irrelevant because behavior like that in public is in-excusable.

I don't have kids either and I have zero patience for bad behavior in public. Leave them at home or take them to McDonalds or Chuck E Cheeses.

To quote the late John Lennon...

"Children are to be obscene and not heard"

It's not the kids' fault. One thing I can't stomach is doting parents...

No, isn't the kids fault one bit, it is the parent's and society's fault for making parents the devil for disciplining your kids. Actions have consequences, i.e. an ass beating, this fluffly, political correct time-out bullshit doesn't work.

When will parents figure out, You can't reason with children! Their minds do not work like that! You tell them what to do and when to do it, it's the only way to keep them under control, you are the parent and the one that's in charge, not them!

Teach your children in the way in which they should go, and when they are grown, they shall not depart from it. Simple isn't it?

I don't worry about it, I dread the repurcussions if this is the way of the world. I also hate it when I can't pay for a meal somewhere and enjoy it too. That particular restaraunt is on the no fly list for me from now on.
I do find that the older I get the less I enjoy being around the masses. Of course this is all amplified by the fact that it's Christmas, wait, Shoppingmas and people are extra rude to their fellow man so they can buy shit to show others how much they love them in Jesus name.

When in the hell did kids start getting to do whatever they want?

When the "new parenting" came into vogue in the late 70s and early 80s, where traditional child rearing was thrown out the window as too brutal and snuffing out childrens' well being and individuality. That's when what I call "child worship" started (see Hawg's school teacher thread here in the Rants & Raves forum for more) in this country and we've all see the result every since. The larger the metropolitan area and/or the more liberal the state the more you see the behavior you described. What has happened in this country regarding child rearing is an abomination, and if I were to restart a family I would most likely leave the country to other lands (yes, they're out there) that still allow parents to raise their children in a traditional manner, and without fear of a visit from Child Services or even an arrest simply for spanking your kid.

My sisters kids are about five years older than mine, across the board. Same combination, two girls, one boy. I had the benefit of observing her effrots to raise #1 with the "new parenting" skills.

Not only did it re-inforce my determination to stick with old fashioned discipline and respect, but changed her mind as well. After she realized that she had a full on battle for control with her oldest daughter, she tossed that "new" thinking out the window, and used the wooden spoon when needed.

I know when we had the kids out, I was more aware that misbehavior would ruin the atmosphere for other folks than anything else. Thankfully, I can only recall a time or two when I or my wife had to remove one of the kids out of a restaurant for a visit on howw things were goign to be. My son had a sensitive gag reflex and gacked up all his food a couple of times which was embarrassing (he was pretty yoiung) but was not misbehavior.

We had lunch yesterday at Dimassi's. Horrible little girl with her wuss dad and silent mother walked in. She ran them through the wringer. I was tempted to beat all three.

People that talk to their kids more than once aren't doing the kid, themselves, or their fellow human, any favors.

In essence, what the "new parenting" has done is make it so every kid is raised as though he/she is an only child, regardless of how many kids may be in the family of parents who follow this idiocy. The child/children rule the roost and the parents jump to their commands and desires. It's an insane way to raise children, and our society is paying the price.

I'll add this little tidbit. Averaging out the analyses I've read for the Bush/Obama Presidential election, voter between 18-30 years old voted approximately 85% for Obama. What do you expect from an age group where most have been mollycoddled from birth and the world is at their command. To them socialism sounds like heaven.

    TrailDust,

That's exactly right. My niece has a little boy that runs the place. There's no disipline. All I hear when he's at my sister's and I'm talking with her on the phone is that boy's loud voice drowning out everything. I say, "I can't talk with all of that noise!" and my sister will tell me to hold on and then starts talking to the boy! I'M THE ONE ON THE PHONE!! Talk to the boy later and swat his butt now. When he's over there, phone calls don't last too long.

My other sister and her husband practice old fashioned disipline and her kids have learned to behave over time. (started out rough - kinda lax) She home schools them and they do better on their tests than the public school brain washed kids.

Say! When are you coming to Texas? We'll have to play some golf when you do.

I'm in '79, my sister was in '83. Now when the youngest came in '88 THEN it started. At least that's how my sister and I see it

what is lacking these days is "home training"
everything a kid needs or requires begins in the home
kids are born neutral--neither good or bad
it is the parent's job to instill the "good" to our children
when kids are given the "right training" at home
they will act right outside the home, be it in schools, restauarnts, church, malls, etc.....

I do not have kids. I just thought I would say that before I go off on how to raise kids. LOL!
My folks got divorced when I was 5 and my mom worked and raised me for the most part my dad did what he did when my mother would call him or I was at his house and he wasn't working. He was a deputy sheriff and a deputy constable until I was about 18 then he moved to Indiana and from there to West Virginia. So I was a product of a single parent house hold or one with a step parent or no parent at all sometimes. I was a shit head until I was about 19 years old. Then I started to calm down and hold a job and take care of bitness for the most part. But my mother tried her hardest when either of my parents would spank me with their hand, a wooden paddle (My butt has two broken paddles to it's name LOL) a horse crop (the stick with the leather loop on the end) or the show stick (a fiber glass rod about 2 1/2' 3' long and about a 1/2" in diameter) I would turn around laughing no matter how bad it hurt. I was a terrible kid, I'm not real proud of it but there is nothing I can do to change it either. My point is I still did a pretty good job of being good at home and out in public. Or I would get it real bad when I got home or my mother would call an uncle or grandpa over to the house to do it for her. And I see kids throwing things at people walking by and I see a huge decline in parenting. I don't know how these kids get away with some of the crap they do.
