I’m probably unusual in that I’ve lived in SoCal 4 times and NoCal once. In 1963 SoCal was a happening place. In 1965 it was starting to really strain - I remember walking down the street in a misting rain with my eyes burning from the diluted nitric acid caused by the smog. Fast forward to 1978, I hit the streets to get Prop13 passed. That limited the reassessment hikes to 1% per year. 1999 moved to Sausalito. Marin county is totally insane. Sausalito needed to tear down the 1920’s Police/Fire station admin building - the PD was in modular offices on landfill in the Bay. People fought the plans on the basis it was bad Feng Shui, and won in county wide election. Moved down to Orange County and watched the train wreck of 2008/9 coming and moved back to Texas in 2003.

Just to specifically point out a few...

I was born in New York (19 years), moved to California (25 years) and have been here for 15 years.
So I guess you can say I made 2 huge mistakes in my life (well, 3 if we include my first marriage), but I corrected them.
You couldn't pay me enough money to move back to either of those hell-holes.

It all comes back to a simple question: If you are leaving the place where you live because it is a septic tank and find a place that is NOT a septic tank, and move there, why do you immediately start working to turn the new place into the septic tank you just left?

They may be living in rural areas as well; some members on these forums who have said they live in rural areas continually advocate socialist and other leftist ideals supposedly in the name of conservatism. I do not know if that is because they are true leftists or conservatives who are ignorant that the ideals they espouse are leftist and not at all conservative by nature.
