F all those a-holes who stopped under the overpass last night on I-35 and shut the freeway down. I was just before my exit and could have been home in my garage as the big hail hit but self-entitled jerks stopped every lane and the shoulders under the overpass to save their own cars and brought I-35 to a standstill so the rest of us were stuck on the freeway and taking all the golfball size and larger hail on our own vehicles. Resulted in grid lock so I couldn't even drive through the ditch to get off the freeway.

On a related note, anyone know of a really good body shop north of Austin (or further, if they're exceptional I'm willing to drive quite a ways).

Satisfy yourself with the knowledge that the dipshits who do that will try to take shelter from a tornado the same way, and it's likely to get them killed. Cowering under an overpass when a tornado hits is basically like trying to hide in a wind tunnel - you're much more likely to die because the wind will literally suck you out into the storm.

So, get that body work done and remember who's more likely to live when the shit really hits the fan.

Think about it. With a water hose you have a flow of water. What happens if you force that water through a narrower space? Same thing happens with wind funneled under an overpass by the abutments that lead up to it and slope under it.

F3 or higher (probably F2 even) will suck you up right out of that ditch.

That's what I've always heard, too. Of course, I figure if the tornado passes over you, you're screwed anyway. Like OldAg said, the ditch won't save you from a direct hit. But I figure ditch vs overpass is like the difference between being shot at with a shotgun...or being inside the barrel when the shot's fired.

Yep. I35 is four lanes wide there plus an inner and outer shoulder and they stopped in every f'ing one of them. Brought the entire freeway to a standstill. I was one lane in with cars all around me so I couldn't even bomb the ditch and get out.

This, exactly. In Kaufman County for the last couple of years the Tax Assessor's Office has been inflating property values beyond all logic, then when you complain about it they point to the state property tax and say "hey, we don't set the tax amount..."

Amazing how property values drop by almost half if you cross the county line...to any neighboring county...
