In the past it was not uncommon to see engraved silver or brass name plates attached to the stocks of long guns or grips of revolvers, particularly on presentation or gift firearms. I have been considering personalizing a few items along these lines. I have two questions:

    1. Who does this type of work anymore? Would a trophy shop be the best bet?

    2. How were such name plates attached? Was the wood inletted and the plate then glued in, or was it screwed in?

    Any advice would be welcome.

I'm not referring to engraving the actual firearm, but rather engraving a brass/silver plate which would then be affixed to the wood stock.
