Phishing Scam

Got this email a few days ago pretending to be from the IRS. It looks very authentic. Except for a couple of syntax errors, it is very well done, complete with the IRS logo.
The attention line did not address me by name, but by my email address..another give away.

I can see how some folks might fall for it and click on the link, which is likely where they will ask for your SSN and other personal info.

They don't. Ever. If you get an unsolicited email from the IRS, its a fake. Always. They just don't do it.

They use email extensively to communicate with the public. If you write them an email and send it to the correct address, you'll get an answer.

ETA: You have to know who you're writing. The Joint Board for Enrollment of Actuaries has one email address. The Office of Enrollment has another. There are probably hundreds of different email addresses within the Service by which you may initiate contact with them.

However, keep in mind that disclosure laws prohibit the IRS from sending tax information over unencrypted networks. If you email a general question, you'll get a general answer. If you want specific information about your situation, you'll be asked to call.
