I work in the auto industry and we have people who say "VIN number".
Same deal as PIN number.

So you say, "Vehicle identification number" when referring to it?
I love giving people a hard time about this one. Where ya taking it?“Take a dump”
Not sure about you, but I prefer to leave them
Classic!Just VIN, saying the word "number" is redundant. Sometimes when someone says it to me I reply "I bet you used to work for the Department of Redundancy Department."
Yeah, well that's because the passive voice sucks. Nobody wants to take responsibility. It is what it is.
And phrasings rather than phrases, anything implying an inanimate object has a will and agency of its own: the car lost control, the gun just went off...
On this train of thought . . . it's a WATER HEATER, not a HOT WATER HEATER. Why would you heat hot water? (sorry, but my father was a plumber and that one grinds my grits.)Dealing with stupid people & the stuff they say sometimes.
I just literally had this conversation with a custom home builder that i'm selling a fireplace to.
Him ... "The framing specs says 47 5/8" for the framing height & i have 47 1/4", do i need to re-frame? i remember the product is smaller."
Me ... "the 47 5/8" is the minimum framing spec, so you don't have a fire,
Please correct your framing spec."
Yes, or just VIN.So you say, "Vehicle identification number" when referring to it?

It makes absolute sense to Navy Seals (and most folks, I suppose). The idea is that one gun can fail but the likelihood that two will do so is pretty nil. So 2 is 1 and 1 is none means just exactly that, because the fastest reload in the world is a second gun."Aim small miss small." I prefer "Aim small HIT small."
"2 guns are 1, 1 gun is none." This makes no sense.
"It was just a simple mistake." It is not the complexity of the mistake that is of concern, but the consequences.
