Let's hope ATF is too busy with booze and cigarettes to come looking for pistol braces that don't meet current rules. But just in case here is some legal advice from Washington Gun Law channel. If anyone has a visit from ATF please consider posting the experience on this forum.

Washington Gun Law President, William Kirk, discusses whether or not the ATF can just show up at your home and demand to inspect your firearms, in particular, firearms with attached stabilizing braces. And if you have thrown some of those firearms into the amnesty registration pool, does that provide ATF with additional authority to inspect the firearms? While many believe that if you own NFA regulated firearm that ATF can just show up, unannounced, and ask to inspect your guns. But can they really do that? Can they do that for any firearm or just for NFA items? What do you do if ATF shows up and asks to inspect your firearms? Learn all of this and more and arm yourself with education today.

    NFA Myths

The National Firearms Act, or the NFA, is an old piece of legislature that’s created an entire bureaucracy around it. Due to a lot of misunderstanding, half truths, and the prevalence of forum wisdom there are a lot of myths regarding the NFA. Several of these myths often turn people away from buying NFA items. Today we are going to debunk the most popular NFA myths.

The ATF Can Inspect your Home At any Time!

The myth comes from the fact the ATF is allowed to inspect Federal Firearms License holders to ensure they are compliant with current regulatory practices. However, the ATF is only allowed one warrantless annual inspection, and even then they prefer to call and arrange a date to meet with the FFL FFL’s likely go several years without an inspection due to the number of FFLs and the amount of ATF inspectors.

Rest in comfort, as a private citizen they cannot come and inspect your NFA items without a warrant, and the warrant would obviously have to be tied to criminal activity. If you aren’t running guns like a biker gang your NFA items are safe from prying eyes.

Rule #2. Shut the **** up.
Rule #2a. Don’t answer the door.
Rule #3. Shut the **** up.
Rule #3a. Don’t answer any questions.
Rule #4. Shut the **** up.
Rule #4a. Do not let ANY LEO see inside your residence if you’re dumb enough to open the door.
Rule #5. Shut the **** up.
Rule #5a. if you don’t have the discipline to adhere to the first five rules, politely ask them to leave. Have this on camera. If they don’t, call your local LE agency and report a trespasser.
    Rule #6. See rule #1.

You forgot to mention that you should make it a point to shut the **** up when dealing with the ATF.

Remember, no one with any personal integrity works for the ATF. Anyone who had personal integrity couldn't work for an agency whose sole point of being, re firearms. Is to infringe upon American constitution rights. Beyond that even if you believe there should be firearms regulation that can't be done by the enforcement of other laws and agencies then seeing how they treat Americans when they seize their property and willy nilly make rules up by pulling shit out of their ass should reaffirm the fact that no one with personal integrity could work for such am agency. Statists authoritarian thugs work for such agencies.

They are not your friends. They will not be looking out for you. They are at your door to phuck you. If they didn't get a search warrant prior to coming then they are there to illicit information from you to develop probable cause to get one to ram as far up your ass as they can when they do phuck you.

We have to deal with them if we want NFA stuff or other gun stuff because that's the law. Always remember no one with any personal integrity who wants to actually serve the American people works there.

    Deal with accordingly.

I take your point but I disagree. I've known two Special Agents with ATF who had great personal integrity. Both are no longer with the agency.

Today, afaict, ATF Special Agents are as you say, being either wannabe cowboys who couldn't hack getting into the FBI or clueless newbies who hired on just so they could get a foot in the door of federal LE. As soon as they can, they'll move on.

But Special Agents aren't all there is to the ATF. There are a bunch of office workers completely oblivious to the behavior of the agency they work for.

Have a little charity in your heart for the secretaries and IT folks, ok?

Now, can an FFL holder tell me the job title of the people who do inspections of their business records? That seems to me that it should be a specialty of its own but idk. If it isn't Special Agents, what is their job title and are they as incompetent as the average SA?

Anyone who was decent when hired but is still with ATF has left the agency or just holding on for the pension

I can't see it any other way.
If I'm wrong, I'm open to you're thoughts

If they show up at your door and then say something like
"I really don't want to be here"

    Well that's bullshit

They woke up, straped on the gun, badge and body armor and went to work that day of their own free will.
