    Against what threats? Pistol? Rifle?

    Once you decide that, decide how much you have to spend and what you will be doing while wearing it.

    You can get a $300 steel plate carrier set up, but it's heavy and probably not well built/comfortable.

    Soft body armor is can be more comfortable and lighter, but comes with lower threat protection.

    Looks for plates that are rated up to XM 193. And don't waste money on a carrier, I just duct tape the plates directly to my skin. Easier to conceal too
