I lived in DC when Snyder got started with the new stadium for the whatever the devil they call the team now.

To get the support of the community for the new stadium, they promised the locals would have free access to the training center - weight rooms, pool, etc. - outside the season. Of course, after the project started, the "free access to the locals" became more and more limited until there was none.

Once the stadium opened, there was much joy. That is until the first game. Parking was expensive and tailgating was banned. One could only purchase food and alcohol in the tents set up for that purpose. Except for the corporate types that had a separate setup.

Next game at the stadium, people did not go to the stadium. There was a near empty mall down the street, so people went there and parked for free. They tailgated for free. Then they walked to the stadium. People were quite happy, except for Snyder and his minions.

The third game at the stadium, both sides of the road were blocked off by Prince George's County Police because "it was unsafe to walk to the game" on that road. The road in question was a four lane, divided, road with 50 plus feet of median and shoulder on either side. So no more free parking or tailgating.

And, to add insult to injury, it came out that even events in the parking lot off season - such as flea markets - had to pay Snyder a percentage.

Nuts to Snyder and that team.

By the way, remember all of the stadiums built in Texas that would not cost the taxpayers a dime? Many of them were built on the premise that hotel and rental car taxes would pay for them. The dirty little secret though is, if the receipts are insufficient to pay for those facilities the taxpayers are on the hook. With travel virtually non-existent during the pandemic, the receipts are down so enjoy the upcoming new taxes to pay for the circus.
