    Hey forum.

Thought I’d post about my work in progress polymer 80 glock build.

    76f757a31ee58d900eca5b9e07c1396e.jpg

It’s finished enough to hold the slide, but the slide has no internals just yet. I’m buying parts as I go so it was the lower kit first (on sale from MidwayUSA for $50), then the LPK (also MidwayUSA. $50). The next part was the Swenson slide that I have since grown to enjoy. For me I like the boxyness of the Glock and the Swenson slide has the beveled edges on the front. Not a big deal and the price was what made me get it. $150 On sale again at MidwayUSA. Since Christmas is coming the parts buying has come to a lull, except my last purchase was something I wasn’t sure about.

    Aluma-Hyde II Coyote by Brownells.
As a test I sprayed my 21rd Pmag. My wife doesn’t like the feeling in her 19 so it’s my dedicated mag for the build.

Edit: I didn’t intend to spray the full mag, was only going for 2/3 and mis-sprayed.

After hanging for about 30 min

I prepped the mag just by dousing it in Brakleen, waited till it dried then sprayed my preshaken (5-10 min) Aluma-Hyde at it.

Looks good so far. I'll keep up with your build.
I have also thought about doing an 80% Glock lower but don't have time for another project right now.

    Welcome to the forum!

I've put a few of those together. For me (milage may vary) I've taken down most of the ridges and details on the grips, and re-stippled them. They fit my hand much better now. There is plenty of polymer on the grip area to make mods if you like.

For the internals, I've bought kits from Lone Wolf and have been very pleased with the parts. I did have one disconnector that was defective and allowed a double-fire in one of mine, they sent me a new one and it solved the problem.

Also, you can spend a little time with a polisher and really smooth out the trigger bar for a nice reset.

Note: I found that with the V1 full-size frames (it looks like you have one of those) to get good operation I had to shim the rear of the trigger block. It's not a big deal but I've had to do it with every one of my full-size V1 poly. The new Compact V1.5 does not have that issue, and also has rear steel rails. The new V2 full-sized (I've not ordered one yet) also has steel rear rails, but I cannot comment on the situation with shimming the trigger block.

Oh, one more thing, the drills I got in the V1 kits were slightly undersized. The V1.5 kits have metric drills, the V1 have SAE. The metric drills were a better fit for the pins.

If you run into any challenges putting them together, shoot me a message (I'll try to monitor this thread too), let me know, I might be able to help.

So far I've only had an issue with one of my frames, the 22 built that is currently dropping it's magazine after each shot. I attribute this to the extended mag release not being in perfect spec; I'll be replacing it this week and re-testing. The rest of my V1s work perfectly.

I really appreciate the in depth response! Glad to have a seasoned vet to ask any questions I can think of!

Would you mind taking another pic like the one of your 35 but without the slide? I want to make sure my lower internals look correct.

I do plan on going in on the grip texturing but I want to complete it first. It feels pretty chunky as is but it’s not the worst I guess. I like the beaver tail and the v1.5c the undercut on the trigger guard is wicked looking.

    Thank y’all again for replying

As for an update: I’m moving the parts inside as the garage isn’t insulated and there’s a cold front passing through so the house is warmer. Will snap picks in a few when I can

    Edit:
    a464fa1e5a25e640a7a6eb6c8934d288.jpg

One nick in the paint where the hook was. It’s far enough up I don’t really care..

    8472cdc48541bb169f872c48fc2a63e4.jpg

Texturing on the back went away. The paint on the bottom was thick enough to cause a tight fit with the base plate so I filled that down

Still needs minimum 10 more days to fully dry.

Sure thing... there wasn't a lot of info out there when I did my first one back around February, so there has been some trail and error. I've actually retired my first frame, until I can spend the time to rework the grips again.

I have to run into SA and do some errands but I can take some detail pics for you later this afternoon... just wanted to let you know I saw your reply, and I'm happy to help any way I can. In the mean time, here are some pics I have sitting in my 'Guns' folder:

Oh, another thing that I like to do on mine, is mill off a good portion of the lower grip, so the mag sticks out a bit more.. I fell better being able to firmly snap the mags home with the butt plates handing out the bottom a little bit (last pic).

I was just looking through my piles of parts in the shop and I think I have 2, maybe 3 new V1s in box that I might sell for a great price if anyone else is interested in trying this out. The machines I had in CA didn't come to TX with me so right now I can't do much with them and they are just taking up space. :/

Soaked the slide in the brakleen in the sun until it pretty much evaporated itself. Then used a hair dryer to heat up the parts since the temps are unusually low (50-60°s)

Didn’t get the best pics after the coating.
Reheated the pieces for a second coat, within 30 min as recommended by the can.
    80c253b76484d687f3b1b0d8b21ced5e.jpg

Baked it for about 30 after at 185 (it says for 3.5 hours but ain’t nobody got time for that. I have a gas oven and that’s expensive)
So it shall hang for another 2 weeks to fully “cure”

Missed one spot on the inside wall of the barrel opening (#nbd)

Lastly, recoated the mag and was able to fix the small blem from the last hanging/curing.

So now we wait again. I’m very excited about the color too. Seems like it’s gonna look and hold up very well.

So I shaved the ribs off the front and back of the grip, but left the hex section. How do you finish the polymer so it doesn’t look like you dremeled the shit out of it haha. I took some 100grit sandpaper and that cleaned it up some but it’s lighter in color and such. So does it need to be stippled to hide it?

Slide progress. Only missing the completion kit so all the little bits and I assume that’s what my wife’s going to get me for my upcoming birthday so it should be at the range within the month!
Sights are Ameriglo. Christmas was pretty sweet hehe.

(A couple nicks in the duracoat. Not sure how they happened really but it doesn’t seem to be chipping further from those spots.)

Hopefully that Alumahyde holds up well for you...it didn't for me, and I'm OCD about prep work and application details. I'm building a Brownells exclusive brown P80 G19 slowly as I continue to gather parts.

Yeah I’ve noticed it’s probably gonna happen all up and down the slide as I start firing it. But I actually kinda want a warn in look so it fits. If it’s good enough I wanna try to use it for comp.

That exclusive brown is really nice. Should look better when it’s going pewpewpew
