Thanks for the info. The Harris just don't cut it on my Sig 308. Gonna give that Atlas a shot.

Dawico- thank you for taking the time and putting the effort in that very informative review and warning of the knock offs.

Thinking I need a Bipod for my 300 BO
Any suggestions for a decent unit for $100 or less?
Many of the Harris models are under $100. You will probably need an adapter to a sling swivel to mount them. They may make a Picatinny version too.

Academy carries a short Harris style bipod for $30 or so that has a Picatinny mount on it and comes with an adapter for sling stud use. It will hold up if you don't plan on hard use.

Many shooters have a hard time spending a couple hundred dollars on good accessories like bipods for their firearms. But good accessories last. The manufacturers back them if they don't.

They earn their keep and their price in the long run.

The cheap knock offs won't last or be covered by a warranty.

Buy once, cry once is a good saying.

    I am a terrible cheapskate, I know.

But I bought two of these $20 CV Lite Harris-knock-offs and they worked great this weekend.

Most will do the job of holding a rifle up.

You will notice the lack of quality while shooting for precision though.

On the bipod, lightly push your rifle down and twist it left and right. A cheap bipod will give and allow it to cant.

A Harris (or better) will lift a leg before it twists.

Your stock may flex too so keep that in mind when doing this test.

Just a little update on a few things from a discussion elsewhere.

I have yet to see a real Atlas without the two step collar on the leg adjustments.

The top is the knock off, the bottom the authentic Atlas.

If anybody has a real Atlas without the second notch I am curious to know about it.

My Atlas feet do not fit the knock off legs BTW.

If you have an Atlas and want the multi spike feet, mine do not sit flat. I think this hurts their traction on hard surfaces.

Again, if anybody has a newer model Atlas and doesn't have this issue I would like to hear about it.

I received another Atlas knock off on a rifle in a trade deal. This one is obvious as it isn't black but is actually better quality than the other.

Still without the second notch on the leg adjustment collars though.

This one also doesn't have any markings on it.

I just wanted to mention that after my last range trip I pulled the GG&G off my Stealth and put the Atlas on it. I installed the big single spike feet also.

The GG&G feet just weren't getting any traction on the bench. I was also having issues getting the tilt to hold tight.

While the GG&G is a good bipod and looked great on my Stealth, it just wasn't cutting it for my needs.

While most rubber feet tend to slip on benches, those big spikes on the Atlas do not.

Bump, because I'm shopping for a bipod now, and this thread probably saved me some grief.

I too have been looking and this has been very informative. I think I will have to go Atlas and save myself headaches. Thanks Dawico!

Any thoughts on those Versa-Pods? Thinking of getting one for my AT. Not sure if Atlas makes a model that mounts in the front on AI stocks.

Also the rubber pads on my GG&G have just about worn completely flat. I wish it came with metal spikes.

I looked at those too. I thought they were made for the AI stocks. I found a place overseas that makes some pretty cool adapters too.

Atlas pretty much makes two bipods that only mount to Picatinny rails using a few different styles. They do make a wide variety of adapters to fit most other mounts though.

    No experience with the Versa-pods.
