Thanks Guys. I was looking at/for a Primary arms 1-6, but couldn't find it on their site. My search foo is kind weak though. I'm one of those that does need the magnification. it had crossed my mind to pull the Vortex off of my 700 and upgrade the scope for it.

Did you mean to say M&P 10?? I didn't know Smith and Wesson made an AR10. Nice! I want to know how it shoots.
yep M&P 10. it's 5R 1 in 10 twist with 18" bbl. That's only 2" shorter than my Remington, without muzzle break. I'm hopeing it will be happy with the 168 grn. ammo the the Remington likes.

Basically swap hand guard & and gas block. factory guard is just plain awkward for me, kinda short and no place for Bi-pod. I don't really want rails all over the place. Just enough to attach a Harris, the upper has plenty for the Nikon. This seems to be a reasonable option, But for the disclaimer about needing a part from Armalite. Supposedly it depend on the build date of the rifle, but I can't find what that exact info is. http://www.midwestindustriesinc.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=1118
