I just don't see why people join unions in rtw states. Lol i wouldn't expect you to join a union just on general principle

In Illinois you "had to"...but I found a loophole while reading the laws that govern school employment. Also instead of union dues I gave the equivalent to a charity each year.

Anytime. And if you've got any questions I can get you in touch with my wife or the headmaster/principal/English teacher — they can both give you a fairly objective assessment of the benefits and disadvantages of the home-school co-op and the classical model.

We we don't have kids yet but my wife really liked what she saw on the Summit Christian Academy site. We had been considering home school but this seems like such a better alternative as the kids still learn how to socialize while receiving a good Christian education.

Guys, referring to the unions...I am a union employee but I was under the impression that it was required. If I'm not a union employee and I make a mistake that costs millions of dollars (happens to some folks on the regular), would I be left defending myself. Without union representation would I not be sol? I'd love to save the money I spend on union dues and not contribute to such a liberal crowd.

My kids will not be going to public school. No matter what.
Good on you! I wish I had that mentality 15 years ago :p

    They care about 2 things.
The taxable value of your property and the federal dollar value of each student.
    Laws are on their side.
Yep! Gotta train the kids to be future tax payers. It's the only way the system works.

It's possible you might be sued for something you messed up, but typically it's your employer that is held responsible. They are the ones with the deep pockets.

Texas is a right to work state... Why is union membership required for you?

Yeah, unsocialized, home-schooled kids are "those home-schooled kids" we all knew growing up. My two oldest are too social sometimes, it can be embarrassing/annoying.

Public schools long ago lost there way, total liberal agenda then you add in liberal universities and it's easy to see the trouble we're in as a country. Liberals want a secular immoral society with dumb downed children to establish there socialist agenda of rich and poor, sadly all this is not only a political issue but survival for the country. If you can do it pull your children from public school someday your children will thank you.

I don't have much respect for public school system and have long advocated for privatization of the schools and giving people vouchers to send their kids to whatever school they want. But of course this makes too much sense for the liberals, teacher's unions, and the incompetent useless bozos that infest the school system. If I had kids and had the money for a good, secular, private school, I'd send them there in a heartbeat.

I asked around and found out some info and answered my own questions. The company is based out of Omaha, Nebraska instead of TX and technically we are contract labor. The only way for me to receive my benefits are from paying my union dues because the union negotiated the benefits. Benefits such as having my wife and I with 10+ kids covered for $200/mo for medical coverage, our retirement which also pays my wife 50% of whatever I get for retirement per mo, also the ability to have a union rep "fight" for my work claims when I work outside of my normal territory or am asked to do something that is not typical of my regular duties.

Thank you and I agree wholeheartedly. Its sad that our children will not enjoy the same freedoms that I did while growing up. We can however try to decrease the amount of negative influence from liberals and atheists.

Before anyone says..."we dont have the full video". I dont care that we dont have the full video. If we did the same people would say "we dont know the whole story or previous interactions".

I dont care. The guy wasnt a threat and wasnt out of control. Its ridiculous.

But how else do they keep him silent and orderly?

Sorry about that. Be encouraged. There are affordable options and various alternatives to government schools.

There are options other than the public school system.

We home school and we are happy to pass along any info on this topic. In our county there is a large home school group (approx 15 families) that is very active. There are other cities and counties that have home school Co-ops where you pay X amount and parents or former teachers will teach specific courses to your kids (chemistry, advanced mathematics, English Lit, etc....).

Worried that your kids won't get the socialization skills necessary to interact w/ others? In addition to the home school group that our kids play and learn with; they play baseball on a local little league team, are involved in Cub Scouts / Webelos, and 4H. We also have field trips that we go on, the most recent being to the Ballpark in Arlington. The Texas Rangers had a "Home School Day" at the park. Before the game, the Dallas Zoo brought out several birds and animals and gave a brief presentation on each one. In short they are well socialized kids, who are polite and can carry on a conversation with another kid or an adult.

Curriculum? There is a wide variety, from Christian based to secular. Prices vary on these, and internet searching is your friend. There is a trend to get away from text books, and our oldest is currently using a curriculum that is all computer based. My wife has learned to mix different curriculums to fit the needs of our kids.

We wouldn't have it any other way.
