Dallas Texas or so
In the last 5 appointments with my VA quack, he managed to show up for 2. I had substitute quacks for 2 a d I got the cancellation notice in the mail for the other one the next day.

These appointments were at the Dallas VA.

At the March 3rd appointment, I complained about shortness of breath and having to rest on the way down the hall. My quack seemed to blow off the issue even though he knows I have a tendency for congestive heart failure.

Mar h 5th I drove had a lovely ride in the back of an ambulance. The guys in the ambulance remembered me from 2 years ago and started telling me the jokes I had told them.

Anyway the ER said I needed a cardio quack which resulted in my 4th stent and a rotor rooter job on one of the others.

Needless to say, this pissed me off that my VA quack didn't do something on the 3rd. So because he did that, missed 3 appointments in a row and had me on the wrong insulin for several years; I fired his ass. I transferred up to the Plano clinic which is 4 or 5 stoplights from home.

Also, I went to the ER in may and found out I need my gallbladder removed. My surgeon for that needs the okay from my cardiologist, the younger Dougie Howser, before he will slice and dice on me.

Before that happens I need a defibulater installed. This brings us to today.

I was supposed to have my 1st face to face with my new VA PC quack. Nope the are only doing tele appointments.

They might as well do them by mail. They can't do an exam over the phone.

I need to see him face to face, go over med changes, see which meds I can get from the VA etc. I also have a appointment with the electrician to schedule that surgery tomorrow pm.

Needless to say I am (insert whatever word you think is appropriate) at the VA about this. All my other doctors have bee been able to see me in person during the covid panic. The VA was able to do my blood tests during this time, twice.

I'm starting to think I should have joined the Legion Etranger. I do speak some French.

Anyway this rant has had a calming effect. Probably just a placebo.

They basically did my dad the same way. Misdiagnosed and blown off until he ended up a cripple. Hope you feel better, man.

I agree VA sometimes suck. The first time going to Texas City VA after I moved here a vet came in with chest pains with his wife and was told they cannot see him they aren't equipped there and to go to VA Hospital in Houston they did not call an ambulance for him his wife had to drive him. Nobody even looked at him. I now only go there once a year for a check-up and hearing aids.

I've had to many friends that went to the VA and never got the treatments or face to face that they needed.
I've only been to the VA to visit friends and when I saw how they were treated, I promised myself I would never go there for any treatment. I have medicare and a supplement insurance. I have to pay a premium to BC/BS but I've never had to pay a doctor, hospital and only 1% of my medication.

My dad had terminal Parkinson's and wanted to die. He asked me to mail him something he could take but I didn't want to be charged with murder. He replied that he was going to check into a VA and knew he would soon be dead, and he was right. There may be some really good VA hospitals somewhere but I don't know where. The solution if you can afford it is to go private. I don't know that I fault the VA doctors but it is the system.

I have gone to the VA for years.....and have been pretty happy. Two great surgeries and one not so great.....it is a risk. I didn't and don't pay for a thing.

How does any person know that they are getting a "great" surgeon with great equipment for any surgery? In the civilian world you go by reputation. Unless your facility takes care of the president or congress they are probably using equipment that is 30 years old.

The VA has been screwed up for years. Way back in 1979, just released from service, I went to the VA hospital in Dallas, sick as a dog with what I think was food poisoning. I waited 10 hours, vomiting the whole time, to see a doctor.
