Hi, not to piggy-back off the last thread (ok, I am), does anyone know of an inexpensive 01 FFL with which to conduct a firearms transfer? I checked about a year ago, and the two I called wanted $40 to do the transfer. I think that's a bit unreasonable, since all they have to do is receive the shipment, do the paperwork, make a phonecall, and turn it over. I want to get an AK prior to the new administration taking over. I found one at a good price, but would have to get it mailed into TX from NC. Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

$40 seems to be the going rate these days for those. And you're right, it is expensive. I use to get my transfers done at ACE Hardware in WA and it was $20. I can't offer any suggestions. I only know of The Sharp Shooter and Texas Gun (IIRC) there on SPID right past the mall. You can check out Smith's(?) there in the mall and see if they do transfers. And I don't know if its worth a shot at all or possible (or safe?) but ever looked into a pawn shop? I wonder if they could? Though I don't know if I'd feel comfortable habing my weapon go to them.

I think the second store that Shorts suggested is Texas Gun Shop on SPID, just a block or so south of the intersection with Weber.

    Yup.

And the Sharp Shooter is down Staples on the right, well before Holly road.

There's a guy in Aransas with a gun shop, we call him 'Grumpy' - good guy but Prince Charming he is not. :P Anyway, he does transfers as well, $40.

Find some FFLs in your area and call around for best price.

If sending ask if the quoted price is final. some try to add fees when you get there. I was once quoted $20 on the phone and when I got there was told that quoted price was the fee to pay to use the FFL's license. i also had to pay for shipping.

If receiving, ask if they charge tax. don't know why some charge tax if you didn't buy from them.

Yep, check with V-Tach, his shop is Aransas Firearms in Rockport. Has a nice indoor range there as well.
