    I have a Primary Arms red dot I used to use on my 10/22 and I noticed that it can "drift" off target when you move your head from looking through the center of the tube to the outer edge. This confirms the movement I was seeing back then.

    I find that the further away you mount the sight, the easier it is to keep it centered. Red dots are best used in a "scout scope" mounting position for me.

    Interesting. In having it closer and focusing on the target (both eyes open), it seems that I hardly notice the scope. I just see the red dot floating in my field of vision. And being focused on the target, it seems easier to be more accurate.

    But my vision is bad, so that may have an effect.

    BC was doing a red dot comparison/review a while back.
    I requested this "test" over and over. Never heard any feedback.
    I guess this answers it though.

    Right. As far forward on your upper receivers rail is what you want.
