Hmm ... well allow me to introduce your 336's cousin: Blastphemy.

She was named by web forum consensus in a thread much like this'n. Blastphemy is defined as a big loop 45/70 lever gun with m-loc and 1-4 FFP glass.

Trust that even if they hate the aesthetic, they'll wanna mount it at the range.

Kyle Lamb tricked out his stainless steel Marlin 1895BL 45-70 Government lever action with a Midwest Industries M-Lok free-float forend and topped the rail a Leupold Delta Point reflex sight used to hunt moose with.

Yes, it looks odd, but somehow weirdly appealing...to me.

Please, oh please mount a flashlight on the left side of the hand guard.

Imho, red dot pairs perfectly with a lever gun.

The fact that flamethrowers exist is proof that someone thought “I want to set those people on fire, but I’m just not close enough to get the job done”.

To each his own and everyone has their own needs ... if you can't see the target what good is the gun ?

That being said as far as my 336 Waffletop is concerned ... I have been searching for the optimum peep site setup. The peep site seems to cure my optics problem.

Just have a hard time seeing a Red Dot sitting on top of this:

People put scopes on them too............I feel the same way about scopes.....

If you want to put one on......do it.....
I generally feel the same, but! Having turned 74 a couple of months ago, some years back I put a Leupold scout scope on a Marlin 1895 Guide gun. I cannot at the moment remember the scope base I used, but it is a Pictanny rail that extends from the back of the receiver up to the front sight dovetail. It mounts far enough forward that I don't have to worry about scope ring eye, and at 2.5x I can shoot with both eyes open. No batteries to worry about either, but just cannot use it in extreme low light conditions where a red dot would be better. I have a Leupold red dot on one of my AR's and like it, It has a motion detector so no battery drain when it is setting in the corner, but pick it up and it's on and ready to use. A red dot on a Marlin would be compact and quick to use, especially in heavy brush and or low light.

Some of us are purists and ok, nothing wrong with that.

Not all, but most all of my firearms have either a red dot or a scope...old eyes need help.

Talk about butt ugly, but I can see the function, just not for me. I like my traditional walnut and blue steel all the way. With the one exception of the Guide gun with scout scope all the rest have either Lyman receiver sights, a couple with Skinner sights, and a couple with tang sights.

I put a "DI Optical" rds" on my 30-30 336 about a year ago and I have never turned back. Sure it looks a bit odd, but the sight acquisition is SO much faster and clearer. I will never turn back, my eye's are thankful...
