Let's try to have a bit more tact than giving ultimatums to people.

I think we all understand that running a red light is not safe, and that it's not a good thing to do, but at the same time it's a mistake that happens to the best of us.

If I did the deed then the moral decision is to own up to it. Next time I'd just be more careful.

Cameras seem to be too slippery a slope for me. I'd rather not see them.

First: Tell your wife "Stop whining. Pay up. Stop running red lights, and endangering my life by running red lights and using a cell phone while you're driving."

Second: Be happy she was caught by the camera and not a live police officer. With the camera it is civil violation. Pay the fine and your are done. If she was caught by the live officer it would be a moving traffic violation with resultant entries being made on the driving record (for your insurance company to find and jack up your rates) and the accumulation of points towards renewal surcharges.

Why don't YOU tell her? And while you're at it, point out where I said she was on her cell phone.

And secondly, I would have preferred that she actually had been stopped by a police officer. This is not about the fine or the insurance costs. If that's what you think, you've completely missed my point. This is about a machine acting as police officer, judge and jury. This is about a system that assumes guilt and gives the vehicle owner zero recourse. This is about people being deprived of their right to face their accuser. Red light cameras are clearly a revenue generating mechanism.

Had a police officer caught her, she would have gotten a ticket. She would then have the right to challenge the citation, face the officer, etc. Win or lose, she would have a chance to exercise her rights.

I have a problem with anything that assumes we are guilty. This gives our government yet another method to suck money out of our pockets impunity.

This thread is getting off-topic, and a bit heated. Thus it is closed.

If anyone would like to discuss traffic cameras, their constitutionality and so forth, in a civil manner, please feel free to start another thread.

Sadly, we are being watched from almost every angle at almost every intersection these days... all in the interest of "safety".

    BULLSHIT.

We, the conservative citizens of these United States of America, continue to sit on our hands and complain about the implementation of liberal "safety" rules that slowly take away our civil liberties. There is no reason for us to be watched from every corner... except to further the ability of a governmental agency to control our daily lives.

The liberals are quite good at acting on and getting what they want... mostly unopposed... while we sit there... watching.

I guess I better stop there....
