    The 6 at the beginning of the model number indicates that it is a stainless revolver.

    Other than polishing out scratches, your options are basically just what type of aftermarket finish you want on it. Roguard, Black T, NP3, etc.

    I can't really see a reason to use any of those on a stainless gun.

    the 642 has a SS cylinder & bbl, and an alloy frame. If it's like mine the finish is wearing off on the backstrap and some spidering around the cylinder release.

    I am wondering about a refinish job for mine as well.
