If you have handled one before and liked it. Go for it and that is one of those that can be turned into everything from a bird gun to a tactical entry gun. It would be a good choice.

I have a Winchester 1300, and I like the location of the controls better than the 870 (only other one that I've fired).

EDIT: Mine comes with a 28" barrel, though I think the only 18" barrels that I've seen online are made for the Winchester 1300 defender (larger magazine)

Pretty simple: Mossberg 500, Maverick 88 (which is a 500 with safety relocated to a better location) or Remington 870. Any of these three shotguns will do just about anything you could ever want them to, from being competent trap guns, faithful hunting guns to tactical shotguns, all with the swap of a choke (or barrel to go from trap to tactical) and maybe a few accessories if you want.

True. I picked up a used M500 andused it as a project gun to become an HD gun. Very satisfied. I've got two 870's in different flavors that handle bird hunting and trap shooting. No complaints. Both solid choices.

I've got a Mossberg 500 with 18.5" cyl. barrel for HD and a 28" choke-able barrel for clays. Simple.
