I am tired of getting advertisements in the mail inviting me for a free meal if I listen to some retirement spiel.

I am considering rsvp'ing and then you give me my tickets to the homeless.

What do you think good idea or bad idea.
The only downside is there is probably some legal mumbo jumbo that you have to attend in person and they have your address so they could come after you for the price of the meal. But barring that it is not a bad idea. I just trash them, because if you respond positively you get more junk in the mail as these scammers can and do sell your info to another scammer. Want dinner knives? Need help with Medicare?

    Don't overthink it.

You're trading time for food. You owe them nothing. Give them your throwaway email address. Toss any additional flyers that come in the snail mail. Tell them you have no smartphone. :-)

I bought a "return to sender" stamp... If it looks like an advertisement, or comes from AARP, Mutual of Omaha, or some funeral parlor, hearing clinic, whatever... it gets stamped and put back in the box. Let them pay for return postage, if it applies.

I live in a retirement town, used to be in the top 10 in Texas. I average 2 invites a week with a few dry spells in between.

Regardless of how fancy the free meal is, I‘m not about to subject myself to that kind of torture.

Phone and ear pods. I can do whatever I need to or watch something while they drone on. Have to eat, it might as well be on them. But I am a cheapskate at times.

I get these mailer maybe half a dozen times a year. And they are at pretty decent restaurants, but ya gotta "pay" for the meal. I always throw them away.

Kinda like the invites to 7 nights at a Hawaiian resort hotel for $89 a night. I have done this twice and have stayed in really nice suites in Maui (Kaanapali). But the price of admission is attending a one hour sales meeting, and it is a pain in the ass; high pressure salesman talking for an hour. But it was well worth it. Don't know if I can do it for just a dinner though.

Most of the ones I get are for dinner restaurants I would not enter. Most are third tier and crappy food. If it was a nice place I might think about it
