Just wondering if .30-30 is appreciably better than .44mag for hogs at 100 yards. I’ve got an older Marlin 1894s .44mag but would be open to buying a .30-30 if it is appreciably better at that range.

Not interested in long range shooting because (1) my property is only 16 acres and not much space for long range shots, and (2) my old eyes with iron sights can’t do much over 100 yards anyway.

Either of them is fine. I added a 458 SOCOM a year or so ago. Waiting to shoot one with that gun.

You will need to shoot it at 50 and 100 to see where they hit.

I have shot pigs with a 30-30. I load some 125g HPs that are devastating. Someone told me they were not heavy enough. They are probably wrong about other stuff too. One pig I shot with that round blew the backside shoulder almost completely off.

You'll be fine. Run what ya got. 30-30 on some hogs would be a lot of fun.

30/30 is fine, Corelok or 180 something FN cast. Probably a 3x RD for longer range. Shot placement is important. They run fast and go down hard! Stand & feeder, iron is OK. Don't know what 44M trajectory is like.

44 mag will work just fine with your range listed. I'm personally saving up for the new Henry side gate 30-30. Gonna be my go to hog and deer gun

The Marlin 30-30 I inherited when my dad died is a game killing machine. I shoot the 160gr Leverrevolution rounds from Hornady. At 100 yards the consistently group at 1” or less and at 200 the POI is only an inch low.

I am hoping this to be true for the gorgeous Model 94 my dad passed down to me. About a 1953 model. I have only fired it a few times and I am looking forward to seeing what it can do.
