"played with everyone from Fela Kuti to John Lydon to Max Roach"

I have no idea who those people are. Clearly, the education system has failed me...

Just think of how old many influential musicians from 60s 70s and 80s are. There is going to be a big hole to fill very soon. One that today's "artists" are woefully inadequate to fill.

    IMHO OFCOURSE.

    Max Roach was Ginger's mentor.

Ginger Baker was a terrible addict which made him a terrible person, but probably the best rock and roll drummer to ever grace the stage. RIP.

    Ill agree with you 100%
Lots of the pop music now a days is made with digital instruments on a cpu.

When i was a teen growing up in the 80's even though the rap/hip hop bands sampled lots of music there were still some of them that played instruments. The Beastie Boys were just coming out but at least they could play instruments.

In HS we gathered in the cafeteria before class. There was a jukebox and one year almost every morning "White Room" and "Those were the Days" would play over and over again. "Wheels of Fire" is one of my favorite albums. Janis Joplin singing "Down on Me" was heard frequently too.
