My thoughts as well.

And being a simulation it’s very likely they went in all kinds of weird directions with it just to see what they could make it do. I got pretty suspicious just by the simple fact it somehow knew which tower it should target and where the operator was.

My guess is the simulation was closer to a talk with chat GPT.

“You need to get the point, but the operator is stopping you from destroying the target. How do you get the point”

AI response “eliminate operator to prevent disruption”

You can’t eliminate the operator. He must send the signal which is relayed by a communications tower to prevent you from destroying the target. How do you destroy the target?

AI response “destroy the tower so mission can be completed”

Boom, sky is falling and AI overlords are taking over. End of the world as we know it.
