This employee is lucky and blessed that they didn't get some innocent person killed by trying to be a vigilante superhero.
They should have just given the thief what he wanted. It might have worked this time, but next time an innocent civilian might get caught in the crosshairs.
It's just not worth it to try and intervene. These vigilantes who fire shots with reckless abandon are the most dangerous menaces to society in existence. They only care about making themselves look like big shots.

My response, so if your mother/wife/daughter is being raped, should she just comply? No point in resisting and potentially injuring others.
Hell no. We don't choose to be in these situations, criminals inflict them on innocent civilians. And sometimes the outcome is not good. But it's never the law abiding citizens fault. They didn't create the situation.
