If you want an affordable gi model, then sure, as mentioned, for the price it’s a good gun. However once you start looking at guns more expensive imo I would look at other brands

They quietly make the frames more 1911's than anyone else. STI for one
    Really?

I have a Spartan which was a STI/Armscor joint venture pistol, but I believe this is the only STI built on an Armscor frame. I'm certain my STI Duty One is USA born so I'll be very surprised if it was built on an Armscor frame.

Little matter since STI isn't doing 1911s these days.

Yes. RIA M1911A1 CS FDE. $460. Shoots accurate and easy to conceal.
I bought a Remington R1 not too long ago for about the same price and it is a great shooter. Quality seems very good and I don't think I have ever had a FTF or misfire from it. Someone just had them on sale for under $500 (Tractor Supply, maybe?) recently.
That said, I have heard mostly only good things about Rock Island and I would probably get one if I needed another 1911...

Bought a GI Rock to play with and customize, figured it would be better to learn on a $$350 1911 than a Colt. Shot great but I could not leave well enough alone. Ended up buying a Rock Island Frame from Sarco and building it just like what I have to rum my Advantage Arms 22LR slide on. I think they are a good value for the price, But once you get in to the $600 dollar range you have a lot of other manufacturers to choose from.

Never had any issues with RIA, American Tactical, or any the Philippine 1911. Minor fluff and buff helps as well, but generally good to go right out of the box.
