When I was a kid, there was a small farm at the end of the road we lived on. The old couple that owned it had some horses that their grandchildren would ride. I think the old man had either died or was in very bad shape and couldn't get around when the incident happened. One night there was a bad thunderstorm and the old woman heard something going on in the barn with the horses. She grabbed a shotgun (figuring it was some varmint causing the problem) and headed out there. To her surprise and horror, there was a freak drifter guy who was trying to have sex with one of the horses. She figured he needed to talk to the Lord about that, I guess, and let him have it with that 12 gauge. The cops came and investigated and no charges were filed. They sold the property shortly after that and now there's a post office on it. As you might expect, the only thing I heard from folks was that she did the right thing. The story was actually published in the local paper.

There are some people that are so far past being just f***ed up that there really isn't much you can do to help them. It's better that they just quit using oxygen.

I remember a couple of classmates in the small town where I lived as a child, talking about their cows being "stump broke", but I had to ask them what it meant. 60 years later I still can't imagine why someone would do that.

About the same here. I asked my classmates if they had ever heard of girls? Some of them were in FFA, and when the fair season rolled around, and they were getting their stock ready, I informed everyone they were getting their dates all pretty for a night out on the town!
