Any of you try the smoked ham from Rudy's? I haven't entered the realm of smoking yet, maybe after Christmas.

For now, as a store bought smoked ham any of you try it?

Here in AZ I'm lucky enough to have two locations within reasonable driving distance, one of which is 3 minutes away.

    Thank you in advance!

While I havent had their smoked ham, my general experience with their bbq has been consistently positive. Try the green chile stew, I never leave rudys without it.

A Hormel spiral cut smoked ham is very tasty. They’re 100% cooked & can be eaten staight out of the package when you buy then you only need to heat up. My bunch actually request them at the holidays. It’s the easiest thing I prep.

Go to the grocery store. Buy a Hormel Cure 81 boneless ham. Double Wrap it in heavy duty foil. Cook it in the oven for 4.5 - 5 hours at 375.

Take it out of oven and let it cool for a bit. Then slice it up and eat it.

It will be falling-apart tender. (I hate chewy ham.)

It doesn’t get any easier than that, and it will be a heckuva lot cheaper than buying one from Rudy’s.

    Rudy's has ham?
Every time I get to go to Rudy's I get the same thing, brisket sandwich, half a jalapeno sausage and, creamed corn. I can't imagine anything being any better. I was able to go two times last week.

It’s a holiday item; both the original four locations and The LLC empire (Rudy’s “Country Store” & BBQ) offer them.

    Out here by the lake!
We either throw the packet away or mix it with egg white pecans and roast. Those are yummy. The ham needs nothing.
Most holiday meals have plenty of sugar in them. Only once did I taste a Honey Cured Ham & I did not care for it. Besides that sugar sticks to the pan I fry my ham in & don't want to dirty another pan for my eggs in the morning!

Great info. Thanks guys! The Rudy's ham was incredible by the way. Best ham ive had. I'll try the Hormel 81 angle next Easter. But then I should have a smoker. We don't get a lot of local oak or pecan in Arizona but we have plenty of mesquite.

Resmoking a spiral ham is a great way to ruin it.

I had no idea. I thought Rudy's was local in the Austin area. They got Rudy's in AZ?

Edit: A little Googling shows Rudy's in AZ and CO too. BTW, there are 3 locations in El Paso. :)

Be careful smoking with Mesquite. The flavor can be overpowering. Use lump charcoal for your heat and supplement with a few chunks of mesquite for flavor. Too much mesquite smoke will impart a bitter flavor to the meat.
