Saw a Ruger P85 today at GT Distributors ( MKII marking) and wondering the forums thoughts on on it. 9mm

Comes with 2 mags and pretty clean for its age.

    Thanks!!

I'd say if it's around $300, I'd buy it. If it's $350 or more, I'd hold out for finding a P89 or P95. They had some early problems with the P85 but Ruger's great at standing behind them. Most problems with the MKII series have to do with extraction/ejection...easily fixed, and magazine springs.

Here's an article on the development of the first P series gun: https://www.shootingillustrated.com/articles/2012/2/2/ruger-p85/

They are big and bulky and they work great.
I regret selling my first P85s
    I had a 9 and 45
All I have now is a P89 and I will never sell it

vmax, I've had 6 P90s...all decockers, and a P89 which I traded to my best friend for a 70s lightly used Marlin 336...I'll get it back if I outlive him. I love the P90s, not so much the P345 and later-Ruger makes a workhorse of a pistol!

The Ruger P series pistols are great shooters. A little bulky and I don't care for slide mounted safeties but if I come across them for under 300 I'm always tempted to go to the ATM lol

I've got 3 decocker pre-rail P95s as house guns...anyone can shoot them well, and I like the way they carry better'n the P85 and P89. Any of the old Ps will be well worth having. Hope you get it!

I have a KP-85 mk II. It'll be the last pistol I ever sell. It is also the best shooting pistol I've ever owned. I occasionally OC with it but it is a bit bulky and heavy. No worse than a full size 1911 though. I shot 2 compititions with it and win both, beating Glock 34s and 35s. I'm also very well practiced with it though.

ETA: the safety issues were fixed on the mk II. It is the same as a p89. They just changed the name due to the stigma of the original p85 safety issue.

Austin store. Picking up P85 now. They have 4 p95s ranging from $209 to $229. Got my P95 for $205.62 out the door.

If you mean DC-decocker-where when you push the decock lever down it drops the hammer then springs back up so you can grab/shoot like a revolver first shot-those are killer good prices, especially if they're stainless. If you mean DAO-no safety or hammer drop-every shot full stroke-those are steal prices...and you got your P85 for about $100 less than they go for up here.

For anyone in Dallas the GT here has 3 P95 DAOs. One only has one mag and is 184 dollars. The other two have two mags and boxes and are 194 and 204. I think one is a little cheaper because the frame looks faded for lack of a better word

A friend of mine had a P-85, and it was one of the best shooting pistols I have ever shot. It was heavily used, and that was probably part of what made it so good!

Thanks for the report-did you happen to see a P97DAO or P97D?

No those were the only P series Rugers on the used shelf. Was tempted to pick one up right then but I'm not a DAO fan.

I'll be coming through Dallas/Ft. Worth next month. I'd be happy to meet with your friend and make him an offer. Let me know what he thinks.
