Lately I've been in a mood, listening to sad songs about loves lost, trials endured, that sort of thing.

What tear-your-heart-out-and-make-you-cry songs speak to you?

Video embeds, only, please. I hope to turn this thread into a playlist if needed.

I'll lead off with Duffy doing Warwick Avenue. I've run it a dozen times in the last couple of days; it's a classic.

Next up is Iggy Azalea performing "Work". It's rap (with a twist) so fair warning for those who can't bring themselves to listen to anything remotely related to the genre. There's also some mildly NSFW language, depending on where you work. If you're willing to actually listen to the lyrics, though, it's a heart-shredder.

Christina Perri doing "Jar of Hearts". I actually liked the version that got all the airplay, including the sometimes odd choreography, but the special effects in the general-release video were cheesy enough to nearly ruin the impact of the song for me. There's something special about just seeing her pouring out emotions with nothing but her voice and piano in this version.

Now I'll give it a rest for a while. Further suggestions?

Not about love really. But certainly a sad song.

Thanks, CytochromeC, for showing me something new to me.

Thanks, Vaquero, for a timeless classic.

Here's a timeless classic performer with some newer lyrics, Johnny Cash doing "Hurt". Right after he died, there was a big jumping-on-the-bandwagon melee of critics lauding him for his last works, then there was some backlash from those who remember the good old days, including me. We've had enough time by now that I don't mind calling it, in my mind, this way - the stuff he did immediately before he died was his best.

And not just because it was featured on the final episode of Breaking Bad...
