I've got a vanilla Ruger 10/22 with an issue. The safety button began to be quite stiff to engage/disengage. You had to mash the tar out of it to get it to go. And it's gotten worse to the point you dang near have to hit it with a mallet.

Anybody ever had such an issue? Any ideas? Advice?

Sometimes the button will rotate and cause the internal notch to not line up the way it's supposed to. Try rotating the button an eighth of a turn one way or the other to see if it helps.

Also, grit from the blow-back design can easily make it's way into the trigger group. If you haven't taken it apart and cleaned it lately that may be another thing to look into.
