Sam Houston Hogs

Going crazy sitting around the house. Going to give Sam Houston a try in the am for hogs. Other than walk the creek bottoms what else should I do? I know I have to have my APH and orange. Really need to see what my 458 Socom can do.

My brother went out there to do the same. He never saw any, but saw lots of signs of them. Do they let you shoot outside of normal hunting seasons?

yes the hogs are year round. I've never tried hog hunting out there and its been probably 15 years since I last tried deer hunting there.

I live in Conroe and could go for a AM stroll out in the forest. My 5.56 rifle with a 70 grain bullet should do it.

Still haven't made it. Seems like every evening I get ready to go something pops up that keeps me from going. Living 2hrs away doesn't help either. Maybe I'll get out next week.

I am going to try squirrel hunting out there with my dad soon.
I am also wanting to scope the area out for deer hunting.

Are you allowed to hunt them at night in Sam Houston? If so, your chances will improve greatly.

Pretty sure you can’t do night hunting.

Maybe give the game warden a call. He or she will for sure give you a call back. I’d be surprised if they don’t give you a medal for killing as many of those vermin as you can manage. Day or night.

This seems to be the case from what I'm reading. Which is a real shame, since that's when they are out. But I can understand, given the random people who might be out at any given time and that they don't really know most people out hunting.
