I have a project truck (not a daily driver) I would like to be more reliable and possibly a daily driver, but sadly my work does not give me the time (I have to travel) and my skills are lacking in some areas. It is a 1957 Chevy 3100 pickup truck with a 350 SBC from a 1970 Chevelle. It was running but the gas has gone bad so I just need to get it out.

What I know needs to get done is as follows
-transmission fluid leaks somewhere (fairly badly) I have pulled the pan, put a new gasket in and then sealed around the pan. It could be at the speed cable but I am not sure.
-There is an oil leak but I suspect that is just a gasket.
-I am going to order a new gas tank to replace the original as I know there is varnished gas in there.

It has a new carb and battery 14 mo ago, starter 9 mo ago, It has maybe seen 25 miles of driving since the carb was done.
Since this is not a daily driver, I am okay with it being a “time filler, side project, or under the table deal”
I would even be willing to work with an automotive school if someone knows one. I actually did that in AZ or was for the paint/body but sadly the district cut funding mid-semester, kids got screwed, program closed and I got it back looking worse than it went in. L
If you are open to this let me know, if you have a recommendation, let me know that too. I would love to have this be a reliable driver and possibly even move to it being my daily driver.

Give Cambridge Auto on Fredericksburg Road a call.

Auto Repair San Antonio, TX ? Cambridge Auto Center

They fixed a 1998 Ford Ranger that the Ford Dealer refused to look at (because it is over 10 years old).

Cost was only $98.10 and they fixed the problem (bad battery cable).

While there, I saw they had several classic vehicles on lifts.

You get what you pay for, and I was happy to pay for what great service I got.

Cambridge Auto hires the best techs from all the major dealerships, so they have all the major manufacturers covered, and they have the same diagnostic equipment the dealers have.

I would talk to Addiction Offroad. They might be interested in the work to show that they can do more than new trucks. That might get you a nice ride at a lower cost.

You've been give some good advice, and yet, you are still looking!

Have you tried St. Phillips Community College? They have an auto tech program and might take on your truck.
