I'm shopping for a bolt gun and came across this rifle. Overall I like the rifle but I'm not sure about the fact that it uses an extended eye relief scope. If you didn't know, it's in a scout rifle configuration: 18" barrel, 10 Ed mag, peep sights, and a rail mount in front of the breech.

Can I use a normal scope on it? Or should I just find a normal model 11?

I assume those have mounts for a regular scope base but can't say for sure offhand. You will probably lose the rear sight in the process.

If you want a Scout setup, get it. If you want a regular scoped rifle, get a regular 10/11/12 or whatever.

The Scout rifles like in your picture are awesome looking though. I don't have much use for them but they still look good.

That mount setup is exactly why I wouldn't buy one of those rifles. I go with the Savage Hog Hunter in a 18" barrel (add the mount and a 10 round mag) or the Savage 10FCR-SR 308 with a 20" barrel (you'll get the mount and 10 round mag).

That Boyds stock is a big improvement over the Accustock or whatever flavor Savage uses. Adds a little weight. Nice rifle!

I found the savage FCP-sr 308 with either a 20" or 24" barrel. It has the special trigger and stock and a fluted barrel and threaded muzzle. Which barrel length do you prefer out of the two?

Depends on your plans with it. Short range or normal hunting the 20" will be handier.

The 24" will have a little less recoil because of the weight.

Both will get you to 1000 yards if that is the plan but the 24" will do it with a little more authority.

Which ever is threaded would be my first deciding factor.

Dawico nailed it. If for hunting only, the 18" Hog Hunter would be my choice. But for punching paper off the bench, 24" would my choice. I think my 10T has a 24" barrel. But I only use it for punching paper.

Mainly hunting. Wanting to be able to touch 4-500 yds comfortably and still have a decent target rifle
