I wonder how this can be checked out to see if it's true?

Military to Pledge Oath To Obama,NotConstitution???

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates is extremely frustrated with orders that the White House is contemplating. According to
sources at the Pentagon, including all branches of the armed forces, the Obama Administration may break with a centuries-old tradition.

A spokesman for General James Cartwright, the Vice
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, states that the Obama Administration wants to have soldiers and officers pledge a loyalty oath directly to the office of the President, and no longer to the Constitution.

"The oath to the Constitution is as old as the document itself." the spokesman said, "At no time in American history, not even in the Civil War, did the oath change or the subject of the oath differ. It has always been to the Constitution."

The back-and-forth between the White House and the
efense Department was expected as President George W. Bush left office.

President Obama has already signed orders to close Guantanamoand to pull combat troops from Iraq But, this, say many at the Defense Department, goes too far.

"Technically, we can't talk about it before it becomes official policy." the spokesman continued. "However, the Defense Department, including the Secretary, will not take this laying down. Expect a fight from the bureaucracy and the brass."

Sources at the White House had a different point
of view. In a circular distributed by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, the rationale for the change was made more clear.

"The President feels that the military has been
too indoctrinated by the old harbingers of hate: nationalism, racism, and classism. By removing an oath to the American society, the soldiers are less likely to commit atrocities like those at Abu Ghraib."

"We expect a lot of flak over this," the
classified memo continues. "But those that would be mostagainst it are those looking either for attention or control."

The time frame for the changes are unknown. However, it is more likely that the changes will be made around the July 4th
holiday, in order to dampen any potential backlash. The difference in the oath will actually only be slight. The main differences will be the new phrasing. It is expected that the oath to the Constitution will be entirely phased out within
two years.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS CRAP!!! WHAT'S NEXT....IS HE GOING TO ASK THE ALLEGIANCE OF ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS & SET HIMSELF UP AS GOD TO BE WORSHIPPED???
THIS FRAUD & TRAITOR (Obama) TO THE UNITED STATES
NEEDS TO BE IMPEACHED UNDER THE LAWS OF OUR CONSTITUTION.

IF YOU'RE AS OUTRAGED BY THIS AS I AM...PASS IT ON
SO OTHERS KNOW WHAT THIS SNEAKY FRAUD IS UP TO BEHIND CLOSED DOORS!

Source

The source was an email from a friend, forwarded to me. I certainly hope it is not true as it would destroy the complete fabric of our Armed Forces
which I suspect the majority would not comply.

I swore as did and do the Armed Forces to protect the US Constitution and any other oath is an invitation to disaster and the final ruin of our old Republic which has served us so long. Watch those people in Washington with the eye of an Eagle, an inch at a time down the socialism/dictator type government adds up more quickly that you think.

Don't trust everything you read on snopes. Do a search for liberal bias snopes.

While I do not know if this oath thing is true or not, I say bring it. Make the troops pledge to an office rather than the Constitution. Maybe it will piss off the masses enough to get of their dead lazy asses and vote the bums out.

Hoji, the link you provide actually states that they do, in fact, truthfully tell if something is true or false. The article generally talks about Snopes being very liberal and trying to cast John Kerry & any other democrat in a better light.....but it does not question their validity of truth or false emails.

Thanks for the link, it is good to know that they are libs (which really isn't surprising since most of the media are screaming liberals).

But it does point out that they will try to color truths that they do not like.....to an extreme.

For the love of God people! ;) Please stop posting stuff like this without posting substantiated facts to back it up. We have enough fear mongering going on in our community, so I hate to see people go off half cocked and get bent out of shape over nonsensical tinfoil junk mail. I'm open-minded to any possibility, but stuff like this needs to be substantiated.

I'll take it from the several people I know in armed services, then... Is that a good enough source? :p

Not really. This was denied for years http://www.knology.net/~bilrum/UN29palms.htm

I pretty much doubt the story as reported by the OP, but unless you know people on the Joint Chief's of Staff, you do not know anyone in the military who is in a position to confirm or deny this. And the JCS would lie to you about it anyway

It's easy to keep something that's circulating in Special Operations quiet.. not so much when it's been exposed to "big green". I'm sure we all know that Joe can't (or won't ) keep his trap shut.
